Well my first real ride here in the UK only done about 30 miles running her in.

When I got back I checked the oil level and she is virtually empty looked under neath and discovered that all the oil has come out through the crank shaft seal!

Is this common?

Now, I can only speculate about the info provided. Is it maybe so that the oil has just disapeared from the oil window? These engines have that oddity to do so. Try to search for it...

It's not very likely for the crank shaft seal to leak at such a low milage.

Crankshaft seal?  Do you possibly mean the countershaft (sprocket) seal? If you lost 3 litres + PDF oil in 50 miles, it'd be everywhere. All over the bike, your back tyre wood be swimming in it. Hopefully that's not the case and Otto is on the money with the quirky oil level check thing. It's quite difficult to get an accurate oil level reading in these things.
All the best.

I do like the UCE, no question about it. It's not surprising though many people find that oil reading odd. Not much to do with money, mostly common sense.

The AVL was just as quirky and IT had a dipstick not a silly sight window.

Fortunately that doesn't mean there's no oil in there. A well as being a quirky PITA to check the level, it also goes from low oil to overfull by adding about a teaspoon of oil. You'll get used to it.

Thanks for the reply, I am brand new to all this as you can tell.

It obviously lost oil from the picture attached is this the crank shaft seal?

I panicked when I seen no oil and the dealer after seeing the pictures said he would collect to inspect it, is this a massive over reaction?

Thanks Rege

Exact same thing happened to me.
Put the bike on the center stand, run for 2 minutes, let sit for two minutes, then check. I added oil to mine only to then realize that it was overfull and had to drain it out. When you do you first oil change make sure to put in the EXACT amount the owner's manual calls for and you'll be fine.
There's been some debate weather the oil on the case is from an outer seal, kick start seal, or just slung chain oil. The only answer, so far, is to keep an eye on it to see if it gets worse.
RE's are great but can be very finicky.

I think most of us misinterpreted the oil sight glass at first, I sure did, I still struggle.

My 2014 GT owners manual says 2.75 liters.   Following this (with new filter) caused a serious overfill on my first oil change.  I now put in 2 quarts, then check, add small amount, check again, repeat as required until level is correct in sight glass.  Cheers, hp

That is because its nearly impossible to drain all the old oil without pretty much laying the bike on its side on most enfields :D  on my B5 it seems like 1/4 to 1/2 a litre of the old oil stays put if the bike is left upright even if you let it drain for half a day.

PS:  It also helps to tilt the bike in either direction when draining the oil.

Just so we have an answer - and assuming that it's not chain grease being slung around - based on Rege's pic, what seal WOULD be leaking? Kickstart or countershaft seal? Ive got the same slow leak and I just leave it. However, I was thinking about replacing the seal.

Cheers.
