Well it's taken me a while, but last week I finally bought a K&N filter, Hitchcocks airbox cover and a PCV. After fitting these (still using the RE sports silencer) the bike definitely performs a bit better, particularly after 4000 rpm. However, after 2-3 miles the tick-over rises to about 1800 rpm and doesn't return to normal until the bike is next started from cold. Any thoughts/suggestions? The spark plug looks a nice healthy colour.

When new, my unmodified 14gt idle would consistently jump up to 1500+ rpm when warmed up and the enrichener off.   Finally tweaked the idle back down to appx 1050 and its been fine since.

For those who don't know, the idle speed on the fuel injected Royal Enfield is a BIG brass slotted screw that is down in a hole on the top of the throttle body.

You may need to remove the fuel tank and/or rotate the throttle body to expose the top of it to get access to this large brass screw.

DO NOT try to adjust the idle speed with the small screws that are located on the outside of the throttle body.

They are NOT there to adjust the idle speed.

If you mess with their settings you will louse up the air/fuel ratio.

Oddly, the Service Manual only says, "DO NOT adjust the throttle stop screw on the side of the throttle body unless you are using the factory software to recalibrate the base throttle opening."  They don't give a clue as to how to use this factory software or how to adjust the "base throttle opening" if a customer has messed with it.

The two cable adjustment nuts for the actual throttle cables can be changed to adjust the cable tension.  The "free play" should be 0-2 mm (.00-.08 inches).

My stock throttle cables have built in adjusters near the twist grip which are much easier to use than getting at the other ends.

Took the bike out yesterday and when I returned I gave the big slotted brass screw a wee tweak. Started the bike from cold today and for the first time ever I had to use the "cold start lever". Bike now idles at just over 1000rpm when warm, the lowest it ever idled before was about 1250-1300. Happy now.

On a cold idle, my 2014 GT Idols between 900 and 1000. Once it's fully warmed up, it jumps up to about 1200 to 1300. That's after installing the stage 1 Performance Kit. The 535 is known to have a bit of a faster idle once it's fully warmed up. 1800 to me sounds a little high.
