Hi all,
My recent purchase is what I believe is a 1970 Bullet 500, has a plate with model 1970 on it.
The bike appears to have had an update in the mid 90's and now has indicators and dual seat.
Can anyone give a firm build year from this engine/chassis number? - 5B55097L
I don't really care when it was built but knowing will make it easier for parts purchase etc.
With a bit of luck I have included a photo.

Cheers, Geoff.

As I posted elsewhere, if that is a 1970 bike it would have had a 350 engine in originally, the Madras factory only built 500s after 1989. It appears to have been fitted with later parts, so I suspect only the frame is original!

You MIGHT be able to shed some light on this by contacting the Royal Enfield Owner's club in the UK, see David Blasco's piece here, it will be worth taking CLEAR digital photos of not only the plate but any frame numbers and engine numbers, usually on the left hand headstock and crankcase, also any numbers stamped into the gearbox.

Hope this helps.

Just an update, My "1970" Bullet 500 has been confirmed as a 1995 model with a dodgy 1970 plate.

Thanks Adrian for the lead.

Cheers, Geoff.

Hopefully you will still be allowed to ride the thing and have some fun doing so.

1995? At that age you may find the engine assembly line date stamp on the rear of the points plate.
Never underestimate the value of improved combustion efficiency and reducing parasitic engine and rolling chassis losses.

Has a Boyer ignition fitted so points plate removed.

The more I look over the bike the more '95 dates I find on components, July, Aug, and Sep.1995 so I am very confident the build date given to me of Oct. 1995 by Royalenfields.com is correct.

Cheers.
