The high heat is bad but I don't think it is much worse than temperatures of -30°-40° F below zero like a lot of people up in the North put up with every year.
Now, I did get to experience one day that was unbelievably hot here.
The company I worked for is located right next to the Phoenix International airport (Sky Harbor).
I was located on one of the upper floors and the building has windows that allow a person to look out and watch the airplanes over on the main runways.
On this day, (June, 26th, 1990) I noticed there were no airplanes taking off, taxiing or landing.
I asked around the office and found out why.
The temperature outside was 122°F !
The commercial and other airplanes were not certified to take off or land at temperatures that hot.
At the time, I was riding my BMW K-75 to work so I got to ride home in that heat.
It was so hot that the skin on my arms and face felt like it was burning.
Sitting at a stop light was really bad but riding along at 40-50 mph wasn't any better.
The sweat evaporated faster than my body could make it so it was a stinging, burning hot feeling all the way home.
It was the same kind of feeling I got if I was standing in front of one of the heat treating furnaces with the door open and its 2000°F heat blasting out.
Not good at all !
It was a damn good thing my ride was only about 6 1/2 miles.
I think I wouldn't have been able to make it if it had been over 10.
Oh! It's a balmy 115°F outside right now.
