I am ready to embark on bike 12 ;) been seriously thinking about the pegusus c5 model. earlier on in the year I was leaning towards the interceptor 650
here in OZ the pegusus is due in mid july and the interceptor august. priced near on top of each other with roughly $100 US dollars splitting them.
the big question. the C5 has been out for a while and pretty well proven...the interceptor is the dark horse so what would you buy and why.
you can take my word this is a serious opinion poll and I am not wasting any-ones time. I WILL BUY ONE BIKE OR THE OTHER! but not both...LOL I had trouble with that silly idea before with free-loaders
one bike is just the same old unit wrapped up in a fancy paint scheme and the other a completely new model. its really a hard call this one or is for me

Go for the 650 twin.

You've already had 11 RE's that were basically almost the same motorcycle and you didn't like any of them or IMO, you would have kept them.

The 650 twin is a new adventure for you (and us) so don't beat the same old bush.  Try something that is actually new to you.

I second Jim's opinion.  You can see it as a community service.  Pick up the 650 before any of the rest of us can even see it at the dealership.  Since we've been following your adventures with the other bikes we know how you face a new bike so it'll give us an idea what to expect when they finally DO reach our local dealer.

Black and Red would be my choice of color, but am curious which one appeals to you.

Another vote for the 650. I don't want to buy one but I want to know what it's like.  I reckon you'd give a more honest and informed assessment than a magazine or blog "test".

one bike is just the same old unit wrapped up in a fancy paint scheme

Got it in one, though I would hesitate to call that paint scheme 'fancy'.  'Mawkish' perhaps, but not fancy.

The Interceptor twin looks great. Half a nod to mid 70's Nortons, plus a few style cues from the old constellation. A very handsome bike, especially in gold / orange.

I concur with the above!  ;)

Think of the test miles that have already been put on the twin. I don't recall off the top of my head but it was one hell of a lot of miles!  ::)

The twin will be a whole new adventure too, not just another C5 of which, you've had a few...  ???

Orange is the color for me. My first Schwinn Stingray was orange, and my most bad-ass Mopar I ever owned ('70 Challenger 440 Six Pack) was Hemi Orange, but I digress... I'd get the Interceptor in orange!  8)

P.S.

it appears the c5 didn't get one vote! :D and I really like c5's too ;) anyway I contacted the dealer today to check on what colours are available. he plans to advise as soon as he knows.
I will then lay down the pre- order deposit and wait it out.
I might as well try some-thing difference and if i'm not happy...back to a c5..LOL

well I could say ..just unlucky I guess or the real reason - they would be the cheapest toy I have bought over the past 30 odd years and the few $$$ I lose per unit is nothing compared to what I've lost on cars.. ::) LOL
but back on the interceptor. I am hoping the dealer emails back tomorrow there may be a chrome version available on the first shipment….and its yours! next choice would be red/black followed by orange
but I would really like to get my hands on that chrome tank one ;) it will cost a bit more but I certainly like that bike a lot!

Although my choice of which bike you should get next was to get the twin, I do think that given the means to do so, you will eventually want both.  ;)

And I think most of us would agree. You can't just substitute another bike for a C5. It can't be duplicated.  :P

Get the twin next, but it won't be the same vibrating thumper that we all know and love. And the C5 will never be an Interceptor either...   ???

At some point you will want another Classic, and you will still want the Interceptor too, more than likely...  ::)

And the Chrome Interceptor is a really nice choice...just needs a little more orange. ;D

the inspiration to resurrect the Frankenbullet last october was the announcement of the interceptor. my reasoning was i should have a trade-in to bargain with the dealer. i've worked at a toyota dealership for 32 years as a line tech, so i know i would get next to nothing for my g5 from a dealer. that being said, the day i pulled the head to assess damage, i found a engine with 991 miles (which are like hen's teeth) on ebay in ohio. it's been running great since installation, and i really don't want to get the interceptor at this point. so if you would, get the chrome tank model and let us know all about it. might make me change my mind (if i can locate it after my wife knocks it outta my skull with a cast iron frying pan for entertaining such thoughts!)

Everyone seems to like the chrome version of the Interceptor. (I keep wondering what Honda and Ford think about this use of the Interceptor name).  But my question is: What do you think about the current state of Indian chrome and its durability? Will it look good and hold up to the environment over the years?  I have found the black paint on my 2011 Bullet to be of an apparent high quality and good durability. But my bike has almost no chrome on it, other than a few small chassis parts, such as the headlight ring, turn indicators, horn and wheel rims. All these show no rust or peeling, but a large slab of chrome on a fuel tank and other large, convoluted parts, will need to be good quality and of a thickness that will last and not rust.  ???  It wouldn't be hard to cut corners and save a little money when using chrome as a finish instead of paint.  I bet the Chinese would find a way.  ::)

And you know, if you ever find you miss that whole velocity-challenged thumpy single thing, you could always pick up a proper old "iron belly" to fuss around on. Unlike a typically pricier UCE, you can still pick 'em up all day long for well under 2 Grand American (even much less around here in Winter, at least where we, you know, have a Winter...I got mine for only $1,200, but it was actually snowing and simultaneously sploodging oil from it's sillyass breather catch can at the time--long since thoroughly remediated by yanking it out and punting that catch can into the hedges in favor of a fine KrankVent knockoff). A nice but notoriously finicky old iron cylinder pre-unit beater Bullet will also offer that "plausible deniability" as far as the moochers you've mentioned goes: "Well, I'd like to let you borrow it, Wimpy old buddy, but it's just not quite sorted out yet."  Trust me, I'm just shy of having put 2,000 personal miles on the old 2005 I got in December, and I suspect she'll NEVER be completely sorted out. They come in 4 speed or 5, left or right shift, electric start or no. I've just gotta guess that you've thrown enough stacks of pineapples your local RE dealer's way that you're probably on their speed-dial by now, and might well alert you first if they got a good old one in on a trade-in or something, if you but asked.

yes it has the duel channel abs. I could have painted one something like this I suppose but I was told by the dealer -he doubts if those saddle bags will ever be available for an option
plus if I did paint …….its just a copy.

Dual channel ABS!! Wow...that is nice  :)...it is such a shame that RE decided to leave it out on the 250 units available for Indian customers to keep the price lower  >:(...i wish they dont sell any of those 250 units and learn it the hard way that Indian Riders also need some basic safety equipment...probably more than any other part of the world. I hope they provide you with everything on the motorcycle in the picture. I am not sure those saddle bags would go well with any other RE...so if they get greedy now and no one opts for them because of the extra price, they will be stuck with unsold stock

I don't think those saddle bags are available as an accessory item. next week I know I will pull the pillion seat as it takes away the looks.
I think it will be interesting to put the 018 interceptor against the 018 c5 and that's exactly what I plan to do.
this bike was a quick purchase just in case the 650 interceptor doesn't arrive in chrome and I have to settle for another colour.
so this way I can still ride the c5 and when they arrive - only take the chrome 650
well that's the plan and then it's back to back rides and see which is the better bike OR more realistically the first to break down ;D

Looking thru several books that show WW II military motorcycles seems to show that some of them did have a pillion seat but most only had a rack or nothing at all behind the riders seat.

A lot of the pictures show two riders on the motorcycles but it's impossible to tell if the pillion rider was sitting on a seat or on the rack (ouch).

I have a deposit on brown PEGASUS. The platform has been out for years and is proven.

The Twin 650cc is just to new of motor for RE for me to trust. Besides I believe it will soon be a 750cc twin very soon.  So I’ll wait for it with a hope most, if not all the bugs will be worked out.
REs I currently own:

on yesterday's pick up of the bike I asked this dealer about next month's delivery on the interceptor
he said he spoke to the importers last Friday and the release is now due for november -not august. so you could say I wont be getting that bike next month...lol
I also asked if the Pegasus was popular and he said he had taken deposit for 6 others.
appears to be a 50/50 choice in the colours.
I will check it over today and see if I can find anything improved since that gun metal grey in jan

for the past couple of days ive been under pressure deciding if to buy another gun metal grey c5...LOL my time ran out today to decide on the purchase as the price was pretty good. well good enough to compared to what I was normally paying
so prior to the decision I shot off an email to the dealer which I have had the interceptor on order for several months.
he soon replied and now thinks it could be here in say a month. another dealer has orders for roughly 20 units so if I pull out it could be a while before I go to the front of the line again.
first batch will be limited so no colour guarantees.
not a huge amount of $$$ split the C5 and the interceptor so heres the new plan
I know there are lots of orders for the interceptor. in fact far  more than the gt. I will continue on with the interceptor plan and just keep on riding the redditch.
the chrome version may or may not be in the batch. either way I get first pick of the colours which isn't many considering there will only be two bike of each ..interceptor and gt
now for some reason  ;Dif i'm not happy with the 650 or something like that it should be pretty easy to off load it to some-one else who will appreciate more than me at a great price...lol

The 650 twins are due to hit the States in early 2019. No definitive date yet. But I have been promised by my local dealer the first ride and review of these creatures as soon as they arrive.
