I'm curious if anyone here knows the oil capacity for an Indian Fire Arrow 250cc, aka RE Clipper.  It's got the oil filler in the front of case, pre-unit bike.  I have the dipstick but there are no markings.  Thanks.

Thanks.  I pulled both drains and the rear drained fast, the front drained slow.  My Bullet experience tells me the front drain is the sump, while the rear is the tank.  I left both drain plugs off and poured a bit of oil in, expecting to see it come out only the tank drain.  It started coming out both.  I'm confused.  Shouldn't the sump remain dry until running?  It seems too quick for what I poured to work through a bad seal and out of the sump.  Do these Indian 250's have a different oiling layout than the bullets?

The oil tank and crankcase are combined on these. They're not like the Bullets.  ERC

Thank you very much.  It seems I have a wet-sumping issue to deal with, so trying to troubleshoot.  The great news is that it runs after 40+ years sitting!

just a quick update on this old post, I split the case again and realized there is a crack in the casting along the scavenge side oil pickup channel.  it allows oil to pass from tank to sump!  its weldable, so perhaps I will finally be able to ride this bad boy!

What blew up inside hard enough to bulge the tube outward? Did the oil pump suck swarf & frag?

Not sure.  Perhaaps extreme case pressure, blocked breather, and this was a thin spot that gave out?  wish I knew.
