Most likely someone in Ford's design department just blew this wacky idea out their nose--maybe an intern or trainee--and that Kleenex was then dutifully passed along to Legal, which then filed for a patent 'cause "you never know".  Will it ever see the light of day even as a prototype, let alone on a showroom floor? Doubtful.

Then again, one could maybe see such a vehicle having some practical applications. For example, in some 3rd world megalopolis where cars and vans are at a distinct disadvantage in mobility, to say nothing of parking, being able to break out that scoot might get you to a jobsite or delivery while you're still young. If it all gets too standstilly, just grab what you need, squirt out the scoot, and off you go. Then again, it would beg the question: Wouldn't it be cheaper to just toss a moped into the back of the van or onto a hitch-rack?

Still, even a scooter is no match for the chaotic road rage that is rush hour in Taizhou!

...or Brussels, for that matter:

So badass my Enfield's actually illegal  in India. Yet it squeaks by here in Virginia.
