Yesterday I received my insurance premium quote from Progressive.  Since I am located in the SF Bay Area, where lawyers outnumber humans and I own a home, I have $250,000/$500,000/$100,000 liability insurance, figuring that any other type of accident I can just pay for myself (part of the school of hard knocks). The yearly premium for my 2011 Bullet increased from $41 to $54, which seems like a pretty big increase to me, especially as the two other motorcycles on the policy saw their premiums reduced.  The 2009 BMW F650GS dropped from $37 to only $30, while my new 2018 Zero electric motorcycle's yearly premium fell from $87 to $71 ( kind of odd since you never know what a lithium battery will do next).  ::)

I am unable to think of a reason why the Bullet is getting Progressive's attention, especially as I tell them I only ride it 1000 miles a year, while the other motorcycles are listed as being ridden 5000 miles a year.  ???

Doesn't sound like such a bad deal to me.   Renewal from Dairyland for Texas required minimum liability coverage on my 14gt was $102.   Which includes mandatory passenger liability!    Got a quote from GEICO, they only wanted $101!!!

It wasn't the premium cost that interested me, it was the percent change from last year to this year. And also the fact that I told my insurance company that I would be riding my RE only one-fifth as many miles each year as I do my other motorcycles. You would expect the lower riding exposure to reduce the cost of liability insurance somewhat, not raise it.   ???

Here in the great lake state we get womped by the insurance companies. My B5 was $210 a year at the last renewal. All motorcycle owners have to cough up a large surcharge to the state, i don't recall how much but it's substantial. The really odd thing is when i replaced the 20 odd HP B5 for a 90+ HP Aprillia it only went up $10! Shhh.
