I've looked at the very expensive "performance" crankshaft Hitchcock's advertises on their website. It appears quite nice and am wondering if anyone on the Forum has installed one on their machine or experienced an Enfield with one? I'm not having any crankshaft problems as my machine is still low mileage but I have the desire for more performance. I've done the easy modifications including cams but I'd still like to squeeze more blood from the stone.

I've considered installing the larger 535 piston but with a stock crank I'm thinking I'm inviting bearing trouble. The bike seems to run out of breath topping out at 80ish so it makes me think the head/flow is the main impediment to more MPH. Of course maybe the head was designed to limit flow as a precaution to higher RPM and blowing motors up.

Maybe I should stop looking at "motorcycle porn" and be happy with the girl I have.

The crank is very good. We have used many in the Fireballs.  Haven't used one in an AVL, but I am sure it's fine.

It needs a larger carb, and performance  cams from the Iron barrel.

I have one as a spare for ASBO12!

My Electra-X did that too despite the freer-flowing exhaust and performance carb AND porting work (Bullet Whisperer's 103mph Electra-X used a stock cylinder head). If it revs out happily in 1st to 4th gear but struggles in 5th it's over-geared. The stock 18T counter-shaft sprocket on mine was ditched in favour of a 17T which helped it rev out better in top and made it a generally nicer bike to ride.

It still needed a bit more to get a **real** boost in top though, and it was a borrowed set of "S" cams from Bullet Whisperer that finally got the thing flying in 5th. You said you have swapped cams, but I can't remember what you said you actually have fitted. When the "S" cams had to go back I still got a bit of a performance hike with the stock AVL inlet cam and an exhaust cam off a late C.I. Bullet.

+1 S Cams did it for me. Last time I revved hard I went well past 6300 RPM with restricted exhaust in 4th gear, didn't have enough tarmac left for 5th hah!
