last march the engine had blown again. it's been sitting in the garage on non-op ever since. last friday i felt it had sat long enough, so i pulled the top end. major damage: broken exhaust valve, holed piston, battered head, visibly twisted connecting rod. that same evening i found a used engine for sale on ebay from a 2016 bullet with only 991 miles. immediately made the purchase and it should be here 29 nov. many of you may remember the first time it shit the bit. i think i may have over stressed the engine trying to keep up with traffic on I-80 for too many miles. frankenbullet is not destroyed, only awaiting resurrection.

That's great news and  the easiest solution. I sold my recon engine in july for 850 au dollars. A good deal for someone who could install himself straight away and be on his way- fairly cheaply

Glad to hear that frankenbullet will arise from the dead.

Hopefully the replacement engine is marked, "Abby Normal" (Abnormal).  Ba-ha-ha-ha-ha !!!

Shouldn’t that be “Mis cajones...” or isn’t it that rude? :)

no my balls did not explode, thank God! arizoni, i think you mean mel brooks(what hump?) though i also look for pythonesque humor at every turn. i feel like arthur "two sheds" jackson much of the time. grew up watching the python troupe on pbs in the 70's. may have warped my mind! time will tell...

I wonder how much a replacement engine would be from an Enfield dealer?  I am not in the market for one, just curious. Hitchcocks don't give a price for a complete UCE engine, but they list just the two crankcases (with bearings) for 995 GBP.... or 1750 Australian Dollars!  The crankshaft and con rod come in at 426 GBP, or 746 AUD.

this set me back $1195, $185 delivered. when it blew the first time, i searched the web for a used engine. none to be found, anywhere. this disheartened me greatly, as you may imagine. so when this came up the same day i tore it down, i figured kismet it was meant to be! still think it came apart due to maxing out the engine on the interstate too often. my better half has told me to just go around the block and then sell it. i still want to get it back up in the many hills around napa and sonoma at a more sedate pace, and leave the more hardcore stuff to the klr650(which is a mule and can heartily recommend as a thrasher).

$1200? I can get a rebuilt old school Chevy 350 long block for that. I think you may be right about what happened to it. These are fairly low quality engines (both materials and construction) they are long stroke singles, with a very low redline, and that big heavy piston wants to fly off the rod at the end of each stroke. A shorter stroke would help tremendously in that regard, but it would ruin the feel and sound, and you would lose a lot of torque. I ride mine around 55, never exceed 60. I have gotten 10,000+ miles out of it with no engine related issues.

engine got here at 2:35 friday afternoon. got it bolted in by 4:15. will be sorting the rest of it today. i know the price seems steep for a used motorcycle engine, but after pricing parts to repair the original plus my labor, it came close to the going rate for a used bike.

replacement engines from hitchcocks are 1900 uk pounds. BUT i was someone who sold a recon engine for 850 aud - about 600 usd. Surely theres motors around the place for a good price. The inner cases alone from hitchcocks were 600 uk pounds.
