Got a bench drill press. Now I can make some holes. Having a garage is a big upgrade from a driveway. And drill press is a big improvement over a hand drill.

Nice.
Next need a bench grinder, tap & die set , a large piece of glass to glue sand paper on (for hand milling)Then you will have a  " third tier machine shop"".
Sorry I got carried away.

This could be taken so much further...

Very nice drill press. Good idea to add the vise for it, too!  :)

+1!  I have a very handy vice, like this:

But I have no drill press!  (I bought the vice for use in someone else's shop, which I no longer have access to...  :( )

I'm also happy to see you've got appropriate audio equipment installed!

Just upgraded to a very similar one although it has the key-less chuck. I treated myself to a more basic model about three years ago, which has proved quite useful, but it was a bit too small for the jobs I want to do.

If you have the room and the $$$ for a bigger drill, get the best one you can.

+1!

And one of the "proper tools for the job" is most definitely an audio system. Preferably one that cuts through the shop noise.  ;)

My old stereo was banished to the garage when my late wife
was still around, she did NOT dig jazz-fusuion or prog rock!

There seems to be a trend here...Judas priest, Saxon and the like get banished to my garage. Swmbo doesn't do heavy rock.... or noise as she calls it!
Suits me fine, crank it up to 11 and fettle to my hearts content!

Used to listen to Aka Daka . But now it's been reduced to one old man bunny hoping around with a guitar with another old man in wheel chair on lead vocals.

That isn't carried away. It's the way it is.
The tap and die from my local hardware store has been so valuable. Metric is cheaper and easier to source than Whitworth too.
I already have the glass, grease and sand paper. The last time I used it was to flatten the top rim of a carb float bowl.
I looked at craigslist for a grinder. I decided to to with a new one from Sears. I don't need something heavy duty. Have a gander at the grinder!

I should have called this thread ToolTime.

I made brackets for my Givi windscreen. The point is to move the bottom of the screen forward, away from the meters, so I can tilt the screen with more of an angle.
I started with 3/4" steel bar stock from my local hardware store. I hack sawed the length cut. Next, I made holes with my drill press. I chamfered the holes using a Dremel. After that I made use of the new grinder to round the ends and slightly chamfer everything. Next I set the brackets in the bench vise and polished them with a wire brush wheel attached to a hand drill. They work and they actually blend in a bit with the Givi aluminum mounts.
This is so much easier than using all hand tools.

Big league tooling vise. I may buy one eventually. They make it so much easier to set the position of the 'material'.
I'll get a pic of the speakers. They are roped to the garage roof rafters.
