Howdy Gents,
.
My second post.  I've been visiting since a few weeks prior to my new Conti GT purchase a few days ago (110 miles so far).
Some great info and experience in this forum...and very well written posts, unlike so many other moto forums.
.
I must say, you know you like the bike when you awaken at midnight, get up, gear up, and go out for a 40+ mile ride.
I did just that last nite (this morning).
.
Some mods coming up in my GT's future.  Namely, Dynojet PC-V (on order - local Ducati dealer will dyno), Tom Lyons' Air Box (shipped), single tube SS header, and a throaty muffler.
This brings me to my question and I hope it's not too confusing - what's a good set up WRT SS header and SS muffler?
I'm not keen on loud, raspy sounding exhaust - I always remember that sweet, low rumbling exhaust of the Triumph T120 I had a hundred years ago.
Anyone have the GT factory optional muffler for the GT?  If so, how's it sound?
I want the upswept style of muffler...not straight like the original.
.
I've looked at what Carpy's has to offer.  I just spoke with the man - BTW, he's in good health, with a new Doctor, and is taking his meds.
He said that his SS megaphone muffler is not repackable and "...not too loud.  I can add more packing if you'd like."
I may want a repackable muffler so that I can maybe adjust the loudness/tone.  Any suggestions?

.
I want an upswept SS style and this one appeals to me -
.
Classic Sports Silencer (GT) - $139
.
http://www.classicmotorworks.com/classic-sports-silencer-gt/
.
But then this one is SS and also upswept and appeals to me.  It looks identical to the one Hitchcock sells -
.
Premium Sports Silencer (GT) - $299
.

.
Thank you in advance for any input/suggestions about what I'm looking for > in particular, an upswept, free flowing, and not overly loud/noisy muffler.

.
Best regards,
Don R.

OK...after more searching it appears that this is the RE optional muffler.

Good call. The Motad silencer is perfect for the GT. IMHO. It is not too loud for normal driving, but it will put out a good "vintage single" growl when you want it to. I keep the baffle in because it gets a little too loud without it.
Welcome aboard...Jimmy

Thanks Jimmy.
I just ordered the Premium Sports Silencer (GT) and 5 oil filter change kits and a Pow. Commander from Classic Motorworks.
Called my dealer today and they forgot to order the PC-V so I ordered that from CMW, as well.
CMW (Tim) said that this muffler is not the RE optional one.
So be it...that's OK w/me.  It looks like what I want.

Best regards,
Don

Welcome aboard! I too did not like the sound of the stock bike. It reminded me of a late '40s Cushman scooter so I opted for the 'racing muffler'. That made it sound like a bigger Cushman. I ended up with the Motad SS header and SS Sports silencer and shaved off over 12.5 pounds in the process! Now the bike sounds like what I remember my old cast iron BSA and Matchless singles sounding like. So now I have the original 'boat anchor' and a new 'racing muffler' hanging on the wall. Sure sounds nice though. You will be very happy, I'm sure.

Dime City Cycles has an array of mufflers, clip-ons, rearsets and other neato-torpedo stuff that leans toward the cafe crowd. Welcome to our little corner, pard :D

Thanks...and Thanks for the welcome, y'all.
.
I've spent some time on Dime City Cycles...nice array.  What I've wanted to avoid is buying a menagerie of mufflers in order to find that "one".
I like that I've received some agreement so far on this forum WRT my choice.

I went with the Hitchcock's stainless steel header and Muffler. The sound is superb. I've only used the baffle one time and prefer the latter more nostalgic sound. One good thing about the Hitchcock set up, is it comes with a 10-year warranty. and it's also made in England.

the factory option sport Muffler, is Made in India. I'm not too pleased with the quality of Chrome used on the factory chrome pieces. Just my opinion.

Yeah I think the Motad muffler will probably last the life of the bike! Apart from the bracket on mine which fell apart. I replaced with stock bracket. It's all good.

Just to be clear, I ordered this rig - SS, made in England...I assume by Motad and I also assume it's the same one Hitchcock sells.  Same price, anyway.

BTW, I prefer SS over chrome because I like that lovely straw color that SS can take on.

Very nice looking rig here, Jimmy.
Those Hitchcock transfers look good on the side panels, too. >>>

The Motad is the actual manufacturer of the silencer. It is sold through CMW and Hitchcock. The one thing you need to watch out for is the screw that holds the baffle in place can vibrate loose. Mine never has, but some on the forum have mentioned this. I just snugged mine down after I drove it a few times and it has stayed tight. Mine has not discolored very much. I think the PC-V with a good MAP helps.
Gizzo's has a nice color to it...I think he takes it to the track! :)
Cheers...Jimmy

Definitely a nice silencer. I'm waiting to see what will work well with the upcoming Fireball - billet head coming from ACE motors.

That made me laugh so hard. Needed that this morning!
