One RE dealer now. That is a start. But how many more will be able to meet their new standards?

I hope my dealer gets their franchise renewed.  But they will be loosing their building lease in May and apparently don't have any new location firmed up yet.

I can remember when Duddly Perkins H-D moved out of San Francisco into the city that I used to work for.  It took them about 2 years to get through the approval process and obtain a building permit. Just the transportation impact fee was $300,000, much less all of the other fees and associated costs that had to be paid before they could get their permit. Plus, they had the cost of buying the property and then building the two-story 40,000 square foot facility (don't forget the handicap elevator and bathrooms). You have to sell a lot of motorcycles to make that sort of investment pay out.   :o

I think RENA is making a really big mistake by not keeping all of the existing RE dealers.

They need to get the product to as many places as possible in the shortest amount of time and getting the older, established dealers to jump thru hoops isn't the way to do this.

If they want to build on their dealer base by adding top quality, glitzy shops in addition to the older dealer base, more power to them.
Adding glitzy dealers will serve to increase the number of places where the RE's can be bought and serviced.

In other words, shit canning 50 dealers across the country and replacing them with 5 top of the line, glitzy dealers will end up in only 5 small areas having dealers and providing service.

Not the way to build up a product in my opinion.

Congratulations to Marty and Go Moto. I spoke with the RENA guys at IMSA Minneapolis and in their words they were planning on adding a lot more good guys like Marty.

Are there "a lot more good guys like Marty" out there, looking to become RE dealers?

They will definitely need to provide incentives for the "good guys" and increase the visibility of their bikes. It was good to finally see a RE display at Minneapolis.

I agree with Arozoni.
RENA seems to be throwing the baby out with the bath water. RE had a loyal following, even if small.

Yamaha has a retro 400 for around $6000.  Do you rely think the lumberjack hipsters will purchase an RE?
