Today I fitted the instrument panel vibration damping mounts supplied by Hitchcocks. What do you know? They work.  The clocks bounce around a bit over bumps but that's OK. Hopefully I won't have to weld the bracket back together again.

Amazing we both seem to be having the same problems. My Instrument bracket broke a while back so had it welded and strenghtened and mounted some rubbers between the bracket to the top Triple clamp. Now seems ok. Probably should order the Hitchcocks ones, that would be better.

Installed an Ace Velocity Stack (from Guaire) in air box with previous Ace filter kit  (don't think stack would fit with stock or KN filter).  Without fuel and exhaust mods I don't expect to see any change in performance.

Hpwaco - At this point, your motor is ‘sucking’ better. A free flowing muffler will allow it to blow out better.
I went with more mods, so I’m not familiar with NOT using the PCV, DynaTek coil route.

The stack is a tuning device. The length is added the the inlet tract length to set harmonic wave action activity in a certain rpm range. This wave action enhances ramming effects for cylinder filling. In this case it mainly affects the upper rpm range around 5000 and above.

Also, wave action from a stack is only really working right with the throttle wide open. On a partial throttle,  the throttle blade breaks up the moving wavefront,  stopping most of the effects. It's a WFO performance option which comes into play when you are really riding hard with the throttle twisted open a lot, or going for top speed.

It isn't something which will be noticed when tooling around the lake at 30mph, or going to the supermarket in town.

Thanks Ace for the advice.   If/when I ever get fuel and exhaust updates I'll try to keep it redlined on my trips to the supermarket!   Cheers,  hp

Today I finally got around to fitting my new iwis primary chain, while I was doing a service.  Too easy.  The old one was fine, but no point taking chances. The tensioner was extended about double that the new chain took so I suppose there is a bit of wear there.

Gizzo - What’s an iwis chain and where did you get it?

Iwis is the brand name.  I got it from Hitchcock.they have the Indian made chain, the Iwis one and a Reynolds. Indian, cheapest, Reynolds quite expensive and the Iwis in between. It's supposed to be good quality and I remember Otto mentioning it favourably.

I found Iwis has its corporate offices in Munich, Germany but I couldn't find anything on where their chains are actually made.

Sounds like it's chains are a good product

Is it safe to use 20W50 when the manual states it uses 15W50?

I use Castrol actevo 20w 50 oil. On the Castro website it states that that Activa oil is designed for air cooled engines. I've got about 7,300 miles on the clock. Change my oil every 2000 miles. It's pretty typical to see "fur" on the magnet.

Can't believe I missed a chance to argue about oil :P. Unless you're riding around in -20 deg C,  the difference between 15w50 and 20w50 is 0.

Inadvertently, I revved to 5500 rpm coming out of a turn. My tach bezel jumped off the tach. I caught it in my clutch hand. Looks like it's time for Gorilla Glue and the "Anti-vibration mounts".

Replaced the stock horns with a set of Subaru horns.  Larger and definitely louder!   $15 on eBay with free shipping.

HP - Could you post the URL or item number of the horns?
Are they stock or after market? My concern with some loud horns, is they will draw too much power from a not high charging electrical system of the GT.

Cheers,
Bill
