The stock battery lasted a long time then. The lithium I put in mine is a lot smaller than stock. More CCA's but a smaller and lighter package.  I made up the space with epp foam blocks. No problem. I should have recorded the part number before I put it in my bobber when I sold that one.

My stock battery is past 5years old, might change it just because

Today I took my GT in for it's warranty work. Checked the weather forecast, looked OK outside, then 15 minutes in it pissed down!
The good news was garage were on it as soon as I arrived. I had breakfast in their cafe and tried to dry out (great feature having a cafe in the bike shop) then went and looked at the showroom. The Enfield section had 2 classics 3 himalayans and a 650 GT.  After I returned to the cafe and waited.

The reception came and found me and said there was an issue with my bike. Off I went to the workshop where my bike was meant to be getting swingarm bushes as the was movement in the swingarm. The swingarm was out and the technician showed me the cause. The bolt that goes through the swingarm has a metal sleeve on the nut end. It's meant to be a snug fit but either the pin or sleeve were poorly manufactured. There must have been 2-3mm slop in it. To cap it all the new rear shock only had one locking ring so that didn't get fitted either. I did get the exhaust heat shield and top yoke nut replaced though. Woopie.

I almost traded it in there and then. Quality control seems to be non existent. Shocking truly shocking.

Today I converted a Himalayan pannier rack to fit my GT. 75 pound as opposed to 210 pound and I can take a passenger.
Cut down the larger Himalayan stays and after shortening them welded them back on. Cut out about an inch from the tie bar not, strictly necessary but I wanted to reduce the width as much as possible. Cut out an L shaped plate to mount from the top of the rear strut.

edit: also remove the indicator bracket

Annual Spring oil change.  Switched from Lucas at $10 a quart to Shell Rotella T4 15w40 (JASO rated) @ $13 a gallon which has been suggested by several forum members.    Magical mystery sight glass seems to be ok with it!   Chain is next project.

will you use the standard size chain or go to the narrower 520?
What mileage did you get from the original?

Gizzo,   I should have said " next project is to service the chain ".   It's still the original 530 at 4k miles.  Have considered the narrower sprokets and chain but can't justify the expense.  Probably be smarter to get a 650.  Bought the 14 GT for its looks, not performance.   cheers

Fitted new shocks. Hopefully a worthwhile improvement. Also fitted a new seat in recent days.  Looking forward to getting out on bike with these and 2 new tyres and proper amount of (better quality?) oil in forks.

I rode mine!  It has been in the shop since last May when I dropped a valve seat.  We repaired the head, put new valves in, re-sleeved the cylinder, and replaced the piston.  We were so busy last summer, we didnt get to it till after Christmas.  Fairing kit is on the way!

Took my 14gt in for its annual Texas inspection today.  Yup, looks like a motorcycle.  Lights and horn work?   Got your insurance card and $7.00?  OK passed!  Now I can renew the registration for another year!

I slipped a Magura HC1 12mm master cylinder on there. Ridiculous upgrade? Somewhat; I've been tuning my ergonomics overtime and this lets me get my wrist into a more comfortable position.

Mind you, it now looks a mite bit silly with the black shorty lever on one side and the long silver lever on the other. Wonder if the stubby GP style clutch lever from DCC will fit?

Put in 2 gallons of ethanol free gasoline today which costs $2.73 per gallon at the only station here in Waco that sells it.  Regular is $2.31 a gallon.

Wow.  Bargain. That's half the cost of fuel here.
