It's been laid up since october and will be going for it's first service next week so I decided that I should get it running. Fitted the battery and the tank (it had been emptied and kept indoors) put fuel in it and fired it up. It started readily, however it was quite rattly. I'm guessing (I've no experience of OHV / hydraulic tappet motors) that this is a characteristic of hydraulic tappets?

The one complements the other. It's like yin and yang you see...  ;)

I paid mine a visit.  They finally got the new gaskets, piston, and some new fun toys!  As they say.....Baby steps...measure 200 times, cut once.....????

@ Ace:  Congrats, I think you will love that thing on the roads down there in Tennessee!  Go Vols!

I'm thinkin' that I might take a ride on the Tail of the Dragon this year when the weather is nice. It's only about an hour from where I live.

I took mine up the gap this last summer.  Drove it from Danville, VA. Down the Blue Ridge, through Maggy Valley.  I had the most fun I ever have had on the gap with my GT.  You are only an hour away, then you are in the right place!

Awesome!

Well it's your Input Tom.

Now, since you have a GT, I hope you figure the optimal intake runner length for me :)

I also realised that the Spectre filter is a bit bigger and will not fit my assembly. We will have to adjust for it so it can contain both filters.

I'm afraid to answer and mislead you in misspeaking.  I haven't done a great job in reporting these things correctly, but here we go.  I think we ordered a new side cover gasket to replace the drive chain with the 520 "kit"(chain and sprockets).  Also a new head pipe gasket, new valve cover gaskets(I think, Tom mentioned them to me previously), and injector gasket.  Then I think the base gasket is getting replaced when they drop the new piston in, if I'm correct anyway.  The new head only came with the redesigned head gasket.

Thanks, makes sense.....I plan to have:

no base gasket (hylomar blue)
old rocker cover gaskets
new exhaust gasket

the 520 chain I won't install before I decide to change the cams I think.
