What I think is that the longer I own my bike, the more things I get used to overlooking.  A black smudge used to come out of the exhaust, but it doesn't anymore simply because I don't look for it!  The hump in my seat is becoming a friend to my butt - I simply ignore it too!  Bar position, same!  To paraphrase the  the Harley ad, I just ride.

Of course there is one caveat - the most i ever ride is less than fifty miles, if that.

Hey oldsalt, how is the speed car going?

I hear ya.  I can ignor a lot of things that don't really count.  But my butt can't ignor that hump in the seat even for 50 miles!  Looking at the pics of the 2-3/4" taller bars that Woodboats kindly provided gives me the idea that they might help me fit the machine better.  Raising the arms and sholders would allow me to move forward on the seat.  However I have a commercial sewing machine, with beading foot and etc., which will allow me to recover the seat after it has been properly butchered.  We'll see.

Regarding the land speed car:  Went to the salt flat for Speedweek and made the first [and only] run on the 18th.  Exit speed, at the end of the 5 miles, was 251MPH.  That was where we wanted to be for a preliminary plug check.  The problem was that both front tires had started to de-laminate!  You can't get 300 MPH rated tires quickly.  So, with only one run, we put it back on the trailer.  The good news is that nether of the tires blew which will cause a real disaster.

Woodboats,

What type of bag is that on the left rear of your bike and from where was it acquired?

So oldsalt, you put the car on the trailer and is that it for the year?  If so, then i guess you take it home, disassemble it because of the salt and wait for next year?

Well 251 mph ain't bad going, but 300?

PhilJ the bag is a round tool bag which I got from a local auction site. It holds my spare tube and hand pump perfectly. I have a rectangular one mounted on the front forks also.
A croud in the US which I use for cruiser parts has these  and are good to deal with.    http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/

Speedweek at Bonneville is once a year in August.  I'm in the process of disassembly.  The tires are rated at 300 MPH.  We only want 260+or-.  Spent 10-11K for that one run.  Hopefully in 09 the cost of modifications and etc. will be only a few thousand.  You play, you pay.

One of the problems is that it leaves too little time to play with my Bullet.  Finally got around to doing a full service.  1,500 miles and zero problems...runs like a watch but need time to alter the seat and bars so I can better fit the bike.
