Can someone share their experiences with the "in you driveway program"?  I've been having no luck getting a reponse.  The closest shop is 85 miles away.  Its not so much the distance thats is a factor as  is the bike needs to be run below 45 mph and at that speed I would need a police escort for this trip.

Hi, I had my bike delivered to me earlier this spring from Pennsylvania. While it was not through the "In Your Driveway" program, I got the impression the dealer did the delivery thing quite often. It cost me an extra $300, but his price for the actual bike was lower than most, so it cost about the same.

In the end, I wish I had purchased from a closer dealer for the simple reason that I had to wait a few weeks for delivery. My advice to you is if you have a trailer hitch on your vehicle, go to uhaul and rent a motorcycle trailer (about $20 for the day) and go pick it up. If you don't have a hitch, then they have trucks to rent too.

The faster you get your bike, the more time you will have to ride, the happier you will be...

good luck!

I completely agree with DeeJay on this. There is nothing more important than a good dealer. An Enfield is an Enfield, but a properly prepared Enfield is the best of all worlds. I would find out how many the guy has sold and if you really want to push him, the name and number of a couple of customers. Meet the guy and see if he is enthusiastic and seems knowledgable. There are a lot of great dealers out there. The good ones do a very throrough job of dealer prep and after sale service. I would make sure they put 50 miles or so on the bike to wring it out. Most troubles with an Enfield are little niggling things that will be caught by a good dealer. Classic Motorworks only uses their best dealers for the In Your Driveway Program, but they are still a distance away.

Thanks all for the responses.

Your responses beg me to ask for your opinion.

So what does it take to become a dealer of the year?  In your opinion is this sufficient to meet your criteria of a good dealer?

L & L Classic Cycle in Hubbard OH is 70 miles from me.  I asked Matt Lockso, one of the owners, about the "In Your Driveway" program, and he said that local dealers perform that service, and that he'd be happy to deliver my Bullet for me.  He brought it over the following Sunday morning.  There was nothing on the bill indicating any cost specifically for delivery... the only thing besides the cost of the bike was the $150 for the usual state, etc. paperwork, registration, and so forth.  Matt & Jerry at L & L are a terrific couple of guys, and their help and delivery was much appreciated.  Matt and Kathy, his wife, who accompanied him in the truck on delivery, even stayed for a nice visit and helped me get rid of some doughnuts that I shouldn't have been eating.  That was a lot more fun than riding the bike at the required initial breakin speed from Hubbard to Bakerstown, PA where I live. :)

Yep, Mike at UK in Oakdale L.I. is tops. Actually though, the dealership is called Formula One Motorsports. They do Moto Guzzi, Suzuki, Ducati and some others ( the place is huge). But Mike is their Enfield guy. If you're headed out there, you should definitely call first because chances are he won't be there. He's mainly a marine mechanic, and now's his busy time of year. I bought a '06 sixty-5 a couple of months back and except for a few niggling problems ( caused no doubt by my ham fisted inexperience [first bike] ) the bike runs great. To address your original question 'tho, I was in the same boat as you. The dealer is about 70 miles from my house in Brooklyn, and 30 miles an hour on the Southern State Pkwy. would be certain suicide. No problem. An extra $125 and Mike ( and his son) trailered it right to my front door where he went over the whole bike with me. Money well spent.
