We had an English exam today and we all done good.... :)

Well, a lotta people played hooky and went and done good, but probably not well, somewhere else judging by the state of grammar and spelling everywhere nowadays. I don't even think they teach English (or grammar) as a first language in schools any more. In fact I KNOW they don't.

I probably qualify as an old fart (hopefully not a boring one :)), but I don't get it either. Must be an American thing.... I just about remember our first tv. It had a 9 inch screen but was housed in a massive Bakelite cabinet. BBC only - like it or lump it. Circa 1953 because my mother mentions half the street coming round to watch the Queen's coronation. You could tell how new it was because one of them apparently thought that if the tv had a bigger screen you'd see more of the Queen....

Slightly edited Wiki entry:

Quote
The Honeymooners is an American sitcom, based on a recurring 1951–55 sketch of the same name. It originally aired on the DuMont network's Cavalcade of Stars and subsequently on the CBS network's The Jackie Gleason Show, which was filmed before a live audience. It debuted as a half-hour series on October 1, 1955. Although initially a ratings success... [it ended] its production after only 39 episodes (now referred to as the "Classic 39"). The final episode of The Honeymooners aired on September 22, 1956....  The Honeymooners was one of the first U.S. television shows to portray working-class married couples in a gritty, non-idyllic manner (the show is set mostly in the Kramdens' kitchen, in a neglected Brooklyn apartment building).

Starred Jackie Gleason as Ralph Kramden and Audrey Meadows (mostly) as his wife Alice.  Domestic violence was always good for a laugh back then, so Ralph was often threatening to smack Alice "to the moon!"  He never did, of course, and to everyone's credit, Alice never took his bullshit seriously and always put Ralph in his place when necessary...
