I've done some more research. It turns out there were about 2500 of them built in Redditch and at least another 2500 built in India. However, only 34 made it to Canada - 25 of them to my hometown.

I've made some connections in India and one guy says he can get me a Villiers engine. Would there be one that fits? I'm still holding out to find a proper Ensign or Prince engine, but I wonder if this is an option. I see Villiers made 175cc motors for the Sherpa...

I'm sure if I search India hard enough I can find a proper engine. We'll see.

Villiers made a 150cc engine, they were/are good solid and reliable. One comment I would make, is that on your bike the drive chain is on the right hand side of the bike, where as most British bikes of that era the drive was on the left. If you go to Google images and search for "James Cadet" you will get an idea of what the engine looks like in a bike.

Go to your search site and put in Villiers Motorcycle History---You will be amazed with all the History -- I know, I wore out a bunch of them riding James, Francis Barnett, Dot, Greeves, and Cotten's back in the fifties and sixties.

Well I found out that only 34 of these were shipped to Canada, and 25 came to my home town of Edmonton. Thanks to Facebook, I know have 2 of those 25. Picked up the other one last night. It's a 1960 and it's even less complete but it has a few parts that are missing from the first one, so it was a good find!

I know one has been restored and is living near me somewhere. So there are up to 22 still out there somewhere!

Good find Dave, there is currently a "restored" one for sale on U.K. eBay.

Hi,
If anyone knows Dave or how to get in touch with him I would appreciate if you could get him to email me via this forum. I have a 1960 Prince that I am restoring in Australia and would like to speak with him regarding some parts.
Cheers,
Andrew

Just click on his name and send him a personal message thru the forum.  It should give him an email alert that he has a message and to check the forum.
