Hi All,

This is my first post. I've been looking at Royal Enfields for a long time, and today I bit the Bullet- the perfect bike at a perfect price.

I found a used 2015 B5 green online at a local Honda dealer's lot with 29 miles on it. The folks at Classic Motorworks were kind enough to run the VIN for me and it checked out. I bought it for $3,972 plus tax and tag financed at 5.25% for 24 months.

At that price, I couldn't say no. I'll pick it up on Wednesday. Then I'll ride it home and start with the Loctite!  :)

The forum here was a big help. I'm still reading everything I can find.

congrats on your new bike.
change the battery terminals as soon as possible.

Someone should do a sticky for all the important things that should be done for new and old owners as a quick reference guide?

FWIW, personally I would hold off on any sprocket change until I did the performance mods, unless you are smaller/lighter than average...
the bike will lose power on hills and at the top end

I would not replace the sprocket until after you run-in the bike.  These bikes change A LOT in the first 3,000 miles and do smooth out and loosen up.  Also, my 2015 came with a great O-ring chain that has been excellent.  Hold off on the performance mods until after the bike is run-in and you know what you are dealing with; too many guys buy the bike and swap out everything they can and then chase self created gremlins for a long while after - reduce the variables until after it is broken in. Be sure and follow the run-in procedure and all should be well.

Loctite, battery terminals are a must, but I wouldn't change the sprocket and chain yet, the other things are up to you.

Somebody please correct me if I am wrong but isn't the 18 T sprocket standard on the UCE machines with 19 inch wheels ?

My G5 Deluxe with 19" wheels fore and aft came with a 17 tooth sprocket.

I think the 18 tooth sprocket came on the models with the 18" rear rim.

I'd do 125 miles/200kl  Loctite the whole bike down plus do a quick oil and filter change - at  500 klm/300 miles same again at 600 mile again. if possible do it yourself. what's it cost you just a few $$$$ and best of all - you know its done. after that its a 1500miles oil/filter job.
these filters you can bulk buy from our host.
I have a 19t on stand by but I am not fitting it to my near new motor till its done a very good run or say 2000 miles. after that I think if you doing a lot of flat running country like I do with very few hills - it sounds good.
so in your case I'd forget the sprocket idea and buy a mottorbat gel battery which will give your plenty of cranking power on tap for those cold morning via the electric start or any other first start of the day and will help look after the dreaded sprag.
apart from an easy run in period  following arizoni's guidelines within the forum your on the way to a fun filled adventure plus the start of several posts ;)

+ 1 All B5s also have the 17T (19'' wheels, old 350 frame). There have been some B5s as of late with 18'' rear wheels, which doesn't make sense at all. So if you have the 18'' rear, you'll have the 18T sprocket.

No kidding?!  This is the first I've heard about that.  I wonder what they're up to now?

As said, with the larger sprocket you will lose power in the hills and high winds and such, but if you're "lucky" enough to land a poor motor with real vibration problems, the larger sprocket may help make your bike rideable.  Don't worry though, the odds are in your favor!  Anyway, you won't know until you've got some real miles under your belt...

Congrats on the new bike.

I think the wheel sizes are down to the tyres that are now fitted on the B5, that's my take on it.

Actually HiFi Guy, what pressures do they give in the manual these days?

The manual specifies 20 PSI front/ 30 PSI rear.
