Well, had to replace my NFG short bottle silencer tonight. It's only about a year old. How long should they last?

Should last a long time. Unless the Cat Converter burned up/through.  If I were you I'd shop around for something less restrictive. Many like sportster takeoffs.
I run a 40 year old NOS 1960's  British Cocktail Shaker, it still looks like new.
Try Ebay(with all your measurements in mind) HAPPY HUNTING.

I put one of these on about a year ago:
http://www.nfieldgear.com/efi-classic-silencer/
I have noted that over the past rides that it was getting louder and had more of a blat to it.
Yesterday morning when I fired up the C5 to go to work it sounded like a tin bucket full of screws rattling around. Wasn't sure where the noise was coming from and was hoping it was the muffler. Took the muffler off after dinner and gave it a good shake and found the rattle. The whole internal baffle is just rolling around in there. Bear in mind this p.o.s turned black on me after it's first half hour of use when new. I wasn't given the option to replace it for another. It kind of confirms that it was defective from the get go.

Good to see that it is not the "EFI" silencer that Mr. H supplies. Mr. H one is listed as the premium silencer. What an expensive price!

Now what can we do  :-\ There are various alternatives. Or can a fabricator try to remove that internal baffle somehow? You'll have one proper Bullet with that more free flowing silencer  ;)

maybe you can shake the guts out of it and put a new baffle in for under $20

The Indian made silencers do that.
You may get longer life from the British made ones.
We have used Emgo with good results.
Many others have used Harley mufflers.

To answer your question:

"How long? Not long, because the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice."

Sorry about this!

Think about it, don't try & hold in hot exhaust gasses - It will burn & discolor anything you try. get a muffler you can SEE THROUGH one end to other, with packing around the out side. it will perform & sound better.

I'm following the instructions from Arizoni on that posting. The muffler mentioned does not have that see through characteristic. He got his muffler for $5. You may get someone to give you one for nothing. The chrome is excellent, it is of solid build and high quality.

I really like the look of the short bottle style. Just disappointed to have spent that much for something that didn't last that long. The NFG one is beyond my repair. The way that the weld broke I am unsure how someone would get the baffle out.
I had been looking to replace it for a while now because of the color change. I'll come up with something.

have you tried emailing them to see if they can help you? IMO it should last for many years, let alone only 1!

Wasn't going to bother as they didn't want to replace it to begin with and they are out of stock on them.
If shipping across the pond wasn't so expensive, I'd go with the one from Hitchcocks.
I attempted to contact a couple of vendors in India; but they are not set up well to do business outside of their country. I'm not going to give them my bank account info so they can set up a wire transfer... haha No sorry.

Look up Harley mufflers on Ebay.
Measure the O.D. of your header pipe where the muffler slips on.
Plenty to pick from.

plenty to buy straight from India on ebay if that's what you want.
