Ettore Bugatti needs no introduction.
Little known is his revolutionary airplane that was years or decades ahead of anything in it's day, the 100P.
It did not get the chance to fly before world politics of 1939 turned sour and the 100P was hidden in France for the duration to keep the technology from falling into Axis hands.
More advanced than anything the Germans had at the time, this aircraft was the source of five modern patents including the inline engines, V tail mixer controls, and the automatic flap system.
By all accounts it would have out maneuvered, and with a top speed of almost 500 miles an hour, would have out run everything else in the sky.
The original 100P resides at the EAA museum in Oshkosk
Equally as fascinating as the story of the 100P is the project to build the the flying recreation.
It has flown earlier this year.
