hi

Which is the best way of increasing the idle speed 2009 Electra
Was also considering a power commander but is it really worth it with out any serious mods other than exhaust and possibly filter

turn the idle air screw out(counter-clockwise) until you reach idle speed desired.

Why would you adjust the idle speed with the mixture screw and not the idle speed screw?

From the service manual:

An idle air bypass screw is provided on the throttle body. It is the large brass coloured screw that is accessed from the top of the throttle body. The clamps on the throttle body may be loosened and the throttle body rotated outwards from the top to access the screw without removing the fuel tank and to adjust the idle speed with the bike running. Turn the screw CLOCKWISE (in) to DECREASE the idle speed. Turn the screw ANTICLOCKWISE (out) to increase the idle speed. Remember that this is an AIR BYPASS screw – not a throttle stop screw. Turning the screw about 1⁄4 turn will result in an approximate 200 RPM change in the idle speed. DO NOT adjust the throttle stop screw on the side of the throttle body unless you are using the factory software to recalibrate the base throttle opening.

It depends on which 2009 Electra engine is in the motorcycle.

Seems as I recall the AVL engines were still being sold then as well as the UCE.
If it is the fuel injected UCE, Farmer John is right.
If it is the carburetored AVL, no bs and twoseevee have good points to make.

For reference, singh5g has a video on this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w51XKoubABI

Go for a good ride first, have the engine warm. Then set your idle speed. Turn counter-clockwise to increase the RPM.

I should have assumed that it was an EFI bike (from the Power Commander reference) and kept out of it.

it's all good!

+1 - also, I just learned something new about the 2009 Electras as a result of your "faux-pas", so no worries!
