I have the RE sports silencer on my GT.

Is it fairly common for upswept silencers as such to make popping sounds when the throttle is pulled back quickly? Or if suddenly the throttle is released from higher RPMs?

Thanks!

It is normal if you don't have Power Commander installed. Without PC the mixture is little bit lean. When you go off throttle the lean mixture does not get burned in the engine and gets ignited in the exhaust instead = decelaration pops.

You should hear the Hitchcock muffler when you're cruising at 3000 rpms and pull in the clutch to shift. That's music to my ears!

Normal for the operating conditions...
think of it this way: when you close the throttle, the ECU tells the injectors to squirt less fuel, but your RPMs haven't dropped yet, so a brief lean mixture causes the popping.

I scared a few neighborhood kids and moms with the popping when I had my GT  ;D
