Wider, Daytona-type, bars would be very helpful for a RE sidecar outfit.  Has anyone found some?

Hi Stephan, if it is of any help to you, I have found the British Enfield WD handlebars perfect for sidecar use. They are more swept back than the standard bars allowing a much more relaxed riding position, they are 2" longer/wider than the standard Indian bars, WD bars at 720mms with 60mms rise.

The best width for sidecar handlebars is, as wide as you can live with.

Malky, sorry to say I just noticed your post.  Could you tell me what you mean by WD handlebars?

Sorry Stephan, one of those lost in translation things.
W.D. was the Brittish war office, war department specification, for motorcycle handlebars fitted to W.D. ( war department ) Enfields. I don't know if the site host sells them, but if not Hitchcocks have them, in chrome. For me their use was more function over fashion, because of a bad shoulder. I've used these bars on two heavy duty sidecar outfits and they have been fine. I'm sitting with a friend just now who has suggested Ural bars which are specifically made for sidecar pilots.

Sorry for the late reply, but this is interesting.
Helps explain why my Enfield rig takes more out of me than my Yamaha V-Star.  Besides having a more comfortable seating position (at least for me) the V-Star has much wider bars.  Never thought about it till I read this.

I'll have to put wide handlebars on my list too.  You must also need longer cables for the clutch, and throttle?

I made my own wide handlebar, picked up a five dollar set at a swap meet that had enough length and bent them to my liking by heating with an acetl/oxy torch. This discolored the chrome so I painted them black, very comfortable ride. I did need to buy the longer cables, well worth it.

That's a nice looking set up.  I like the mirrors and the other add ons to.

Talk about OLD looking.
Handlebars like that went out of style in the 1920's !!

I love it. :)
