When it doesn't start, does the starter turn and is the EFI putting any fuel into the cylinder?

I think the first thing I would check is the small wires that connect the ignition coil to the electrical harness.
The plug in connector on these wires may be loose.

The ignition coil can be found by tracing the large spark plug wire back to its source.

At first I thought it might be the sidestand switch, but if you hear the fuel pump making noise that would rule it out....
others have reported problems with the spark plug cable itself. The factory plug wire is not of the highest quality and the inner conductor can fail without any outside signs of damage

This happened to me with my G5. Replaced the HT cap (plug cap) with an NGK and all has been well for 20K miles. Changed the cap on my GT as soon as I got it home. The cap I use is a LB01EP. They only cost a few dollars and are more reliable than the standard metal shielded caps.
Now 2011 Royal Enfield G5 and just added 2014 Continental GT and latest 2015 Ducati 803 Scrambler Urban Enduro
