Hi all -

Finally got around to installing the 7" Headlight Conversion Pre Assembled Kit 145017 and 1 32-1151B 11" (279mm) Black "Shorty" Eye to Eye Shock Absorbers from Dime City Cycles.

(Needed to lower the bike a bit and figured I'd update the headlight)

Both parts fit swimmingly. No issues. About just under 200.00 spent in all. The ride is a bit stiffer but not badly so. It does make it a little harder to get the bike on the center stand... unsure why but so it is. The light looks great and now have the added pilot light back.

So - all good.

The leverage point will be encountered sooner & at a steeper angle making it harder - lowered a Kawasaki Versus and had to shorten side stand as it made it too upright - maybe worth checking yours to be sure.

I've never heard anyone yet complain that their RE's side stand lean was too upright - some guys take pains to lengthen their stands.  I'm guessing the lowered suspension won't cause a problem...

It's not the side stand he's talking about.  The way I read it, it seems that Memphis' comment was about the center stand, not the side stand. If you lower the rear end, which brings the center stand closer to the ground, the bike is going to be a little bit harder to lift up onto the center stand.

I realised that - hence the comment re leverage / pivot point & angle ( which is why it is harder, and on a Suzuki GSX 750F a real B*****d), but any changes to the ride / frame height will ALSO effect sidestand.

I didn't quote or comment on your post. I agree with your first post.

My quote & comment was of Mattsz' post, not yours.

It was the side stand he was talking about… it was dickim's post I replied to.

Around and around we go… did any of us answer the question RE-Memphis didn't ask?  ;)

Memphis: did you install those shocks on a classic 500? Would they fit the 2014 C5? I was looking for a less costly alternative.

You can get aftermarket centerstands for KLRs and Suzuki DRs. Because these bikes are so tall, many people lower them to make them easier to ride. Of the 3 companies that make aftermarket stands, at least for the KLR, they all offer shorter stands for lowered bikes. Your on your own with the sidestand. I had a 1985 1200LTD Goldwing, with worn out rear air shocks that wouldn't hold air, so it sat low. Nearly impossible to put on the centerstand, and on the sidestand it sat so vertical it would almost fall over on the right side. New Progressive air shocks solved those problems. To bad they didn't fix all the rest of that bikes problems.

A lot of folks are indoctrinated to believe that Japanese bikes don't have any "problems".
One look inside any HondaYamaKawaZuki dealer service department will quickly prove differently.

I will say that Yamaha makes a very reliable bike in all versions.  Suzuki probably next.  But the rest of them certainly have their issues.

It would have helped if you had quoted who you were answering which you did not. So I just assumed (Oh, stupid me!) that you were answering Memphis' original post where he does not mention the side stand.

It's quite common on this forum for comments to come out of nowhere with no quote back to what the comment is about. It can be confusing at times & send a thread off into parts unknown, but waddoowyknow? ????
