All I recall doing was cutting off a 2-3 mm long nubbin to make the inner mounting surface of the mirror flat. The weight of the mirrors plus the OEM bar end weights totally got rid of all vibrations.

+1.  Mirrors work better when they sit outside your elbow.  Likewise, nice heavy real Napoleon mirrors sitting that far outboard really quell the handlebar vibes.  If the mirror you're buying looks the same but costs $15-20, don't buy it.  The cheap copies are very light and vibrate so much they're useless.  Spend the money, get the good stuff.
