Is anyone familiar with the ISCA (International Show Car Association) Autorama / World of Wheels car shows?  I been showing my 79 Hurst/Olds and 61 Willys Jeep Wagon for the past 10 years at the Houston autorama over the Thanks Giving weekend.  Was thinking about showing the GT this year.  Just looked up what motorcycle class it would be in.  Found it to be in the Sports Bike class - Café Racers, Road Racers and Street Racers.  Not really worried about showing it to try to win a class award.  Thinking it would be fun to see how much attention it gets.  Seems to get a lot of that just taking it on a short 10 mile ride.

Just a reminder For those of you in the Houston area, next weekend, Thanksgiving weekend ( Thursday through Sunday) is the Houston Autorama at the George R Brown. I'll be showing my GT at the show this year. if you're at the show, stop by take a look and have a chat! Just in case there's more than one GT, mine will be the red one sitting on the black and white checkered floor! :-)

Not 100% done with the set up but that's how the bike will look when the show opens.  They put me in a "sports bike" class. Witch is a Café Racer, Road Racer and Street Racer class.  Can't wait to see what all is showing in my class.

Forgive me for asking and don't take this the wrong way but what exactly do you get out of showing a brand new unmodified bike? Doesn't seem a lot of point, is all. Your old 4 wheelers, that's different. I get that.

No worries. I was invited by one of the show promoters to show it at this year's show. I know it sounds a little crazy to show a brand new bike that hasn't been customized. But I thought about it and decided to show it. I know I probably don't stand a chance of winning an award and quite frankly I'm not worried at all about that. I'm more showing it for what I call the wow factor. The response I get from people that have never seen a royal Enfield or never seen a cafe racer before. Or when they go wow it's got a kick start! I can't go to the gas station and back without having somebody ask me questions about it. And half the time one of the questions is how old is it? And when I tell him its a 2014 their jaw drops. I'm sure you've been asked those questions before so you know what Im talking about. That's why I decided to show it. Give people a chance to see a Royal Enfield And a cafe racer that may have never seen one before. Just sitting in line waiting to get into the building yesterday I had numerous people come up to me and asked questions about it and tell stories about bikes they've had back in the day. That's why I'm showing it. Give people something to go wow over. I know it sounds goofy to be showing a brand new Bike. But when I got the invite, I decided to do it. Every June there is a Saturday and Sunday car show that I usually take my Oldsmobile to. This year I didn't show the Oldsmobile because I had to work half a day on that Sunday. I drove the bike to work and after work drove through the car show to take a look and saw a couple guys I knew and stop and showed off the bike to them. While I was stopped there one of the show promoters for the Houston Autorama came up to me and recognized me from previous years of doing the auto Rama and asked me where my Oldsmobile was and I told him I didn't show it. And then he started asking questions about the GT and gave me a special invite to the Autorama. I don't know what is special invite does for you. All I know is on the entry form he was passing out he checked a box that said invite. The first time my dad showed his 61 Willys Jeep back in 2005, he got a special invite as well. Anyways, I got the invite and decided to do the show. And the response I get from people when they see the bike, for me that makes it worthwhile.

"Why not?" is a great answer!  The organizers asked you to come, so... why not?  I had the same thing happen at a local transportation museum event - the director about begged me to bring my late-model B5.  Of course I did it!  Free admission and a fun day at the show!  We parked it side-by-side with their 1922 RE...

Well I think RENA should be thanking you KD5ITM. You are presenting thier product to the Houston public in fine fashion. It looks like you did a great job on your detailing of the bike. Have fun this week. I am stuck going to my in-laws.  :'(
