Hi there,

First post here, having an issue with my 2011 Bullet EFI. I turned on the ignition for the first time after winter with a charged battery, and it fired right up. The next time I tried it, the pump whines and doesn't stop, the MIL is on. I replaced the battery, it fired right up. Went to go for a ride the next day and the issue is happening again. I am thinking the fuel pump filter is clogged or something and is not allowing the pump to get fuel to the engine. Anyone have this problem before?

Could be the pump is plugged up or not priming for some other reason. It could be a pressure sensor, or it could be the main ECU. Or it could just be a bad electrical connection somewhere. For some reason, Enfield painted the inside of the tank, the paint flakes off, and plugs up the fuel pump filter, even as big as it is. I have no idea why anyone would paint the INSIDE of a gas tank, which is immersed in gasoline/ethanol on a constant basis.

From reading posts here, that's what I am going to be checking first - I checked all the connections that I could see and everything looks ok. Sure am hoping it's not the ECU, that seems unlikely.

sure does sound like a suction filter trouble.

Is the tank full?

tank is full - although not for long. I'll be in my shop tomorrow to take off the tank and check out the pump.

Could excessive water in the fuel cause this?  Either way, post pictures of your fuel pump/filter removal and cleaning if you go that route.

That could be the problem - where I live, we get gas once a year, when the tanks start to run dry, water in the gas. I'll be filtering all my gas from now on.

thanks for the replies - I'll post pics of the process and report back.

Although the fuel pump is supposed to shut off when the system reaches about 40 psi, it is possible that the pump pressure sensing switch is inoperative.

Except for the extra electrical power drain, I don't know that this condition is really that bad although it will tend to cause extra wear on the pump.

When you see your dealer, tell him about the problem.
He should be able to test the pump and advise you about the best course of action.
Hopefully, it is something easily fixed.  Those fuel pumps cost a LOT of money.

To be clear: when you switch the ignition and kill-switch on, the fuel pump whines to pressurize the system, but it won't shut off?  And - the MIL doesn't turn off?

If that's correct, I wonder if the fuel pump is the problem...

that's right.

either way, I am pulling the pump out tomorrow, so hopefully this will become clearer then.

Fuel pump has a plastic nozzle end to it, which connects to the rubber fuel hose, be very careful undoing that, it breaks easily, been there done that >:(

apply a ground to pin 20 of your engine controller (there is a connector for this)  and count the flashes of your MIL

If there's enough room it sounds like a Quick Release Fuel Line Coupler would pay for itself from day one.
Never underestimate the value of improved combustion efficiency and reducing parasitic engine and rolling chassis losses.

If the side stand is down, or the kill switch is in the kill position, the starter will spin but there will be no spark. So no start. The side stand switches have caused trouble in the past, so you might just want to bypass it. Make sure the kill switch is in the run position.
