Have a pre 98 Indian 500 with a 5 speed gear box conversion.  Has a 15" rear tire and am putting a 21 tooth front sprocket on.  What type chain do I need? 520, 530?  I know I need 100 pitch but just don't what type of chain.  Thanks

The safest bet is to measure the thickness of the sprocket.
I'm betting it is somewhere around 5/16 to 3/8 of an inch thick.  (That's .312 to .375 inches (8-9.5mm) thick.

The second number in a chain size is the width of the chain rollers given in 1/8 inch incriments.
That makes a 520 chain roller 2/8 or 1/4 inch wide (.250).
A 530 chain roller is 3/8 of an inch wide (.375 inches ),

Even back in the 1950's, Royal Enfield Bullets, BSA's, Triumphs, Nortons, Matchless etc all used the 530 chain.

Does the bike have room for a 530 O-ring or X-ring chain or does it have to have a non sealed standard chain ?

I currently have 530 O-ring chains on both the C5 and the ElectraX AVL.
Our host carries a 101 link RK X-Ring chain for a very reasonable price.
