Has anyone come up with a slick, vintage style replacement for the ever-failing, Indian rubber battery straps?

I replaced them with new last year (on a 2006 Classic) and just last week one of the new ones died and the last one is failing fast.

I'm thinking leather, but maybe in a pinch I'll use nylon straps, like mini seatbelts. Not vintage, but secure.

and...the newest stablemate, also un-named, my crazy Russian 2015 Ural cT.

Well!! ---I would'nt dream of buying a battery strap.

I would first try cutting up an inner tube. They are free and a trucks inner tube is quite strong.

Try a divers goggles strap,-- meant to do the same thing.

Thats the fun with these bike --you can make everything.

If you ever have a real ole British bike you have to do this stuff.
