Hi Gentlemen, With a little luck I might be back on a C5 this year, I'm ashamed to say I haven't kept up with the changes since I had mine. What's new and different from the first generation? Any year model in particular I should look for?
Thanks, Dan

Hi Danny,
Nice to see you back!

The newer, the better. They have kept making improvements all along. Big difference in the new ones since that first one you got. The wiring  layout is a LOT cleaner and more reliable, especially. Handling is better with the new front end and 19" front wheel.
They have been making good progress in quality.

Hey Ace, I know there would be improvements, glad to hear about the wiring and the 19" front wheel, do I see a change in the front forks as well?  Ideally I'd like to buy a new one with a warranty, I'll just have to start looking around to see what's out there.

The CGTs have a new fork assembly, but I believe the Bullets are still using the same fork/brake set up.  I could be wrong tho.

Welcome back Dan!  Glad to see you back and know you're doing well enough to be back.

The new C5s have a different fork. The axle is now in line with the sliders instead of just ahead.

Dan,
Good to see you back!  C5s and B5s are better than ever.  GT is excellent but the rear sets and low handlebar can be a bit tough on some people's backs.

I remember that you had the first C5 sold to the public in the US.  Any chance you could track that down?

Thanks for the welcome guys, I appreciate it. And thanks Scotty for the fork info.  I sold that first C5 to a guy in Oklahoma, I think he was on the forum a while back but I have no way to know where the bike is now. I looked hard at the CGT"S and I'd love to have one, but no way my back would go for that. I'm thinking Military this time.

I just switched to an SV650.  My back is not nearly as bad as yours and it's still taking a god deal of getting used to.  The thing I liked most about the Enfield was the super comfy riding posture.  Sitting straight up with your feet in front for support. There are far too few bikes like that around.  Any in the lineup other than the continental should do.  Do yourself a favor and get some Hagon shocks right away. Your back will thank you for it.

Right now I'm riding a '84 BMW R65, it gives me a good riding position but it's still a little heavier than I want. My back won't let me go for long rides but I ain't gonna quit!

I am just awaiting delivery on a 2015 c5 number 4 in the chain line of royal enfields  which have come and gone...lol
bikes are better year by year with many improvement.  one of the best improvement was the slo seat - its now much softer compared to the brick I sat on in earler c5's
neater headlight wiring/fuse box/ straight front forks/ rectifier relocation/ tail light wiring neater/battery leads heavier duty/extra sump drain plug for oil change/push pull light bulbs
so the improvements are there and worth buying new.

Welcome, Dan, and no worries!
They keep doing running improvements, so the newest units are already better than the '12 I have.

Yea the fit and finish on the current C5 is much more refined compared to the 2009, go check a new one out you'll notice the differences quite easily  ;)
