your tank came out fucking awesome though. ive done some fiberglass and bondo before im pretty handy id love to give that a go can you point me in the right direction of good quality material
I'd be more than happy to walk you thru it. But this project is one of pure commitment, once you start, there is no turning back. If you have used body filler in the past, then you should have a good idea and have a basic understanding how the process works. Worst case scenario, if you get stuck or aren't happy with the results, perhaps I could finish it for you, but only if it not totally hammered to shit and mangled. Maybe even go down to your local scrap yard and pick up a cheapy used Honda tank to practice the hammering on first.
I will tell you, me being a very experienced body man with 10+ years of experience, it still took my 6 hours just to get to the point where I stopped last night. And that was sanding the hell out of body filler for about 4.5 hours straight. My arms hurt so bad this morning I had to take ibuprofen, and I'm not totally done sanding yet, close tho. Right now my tank has 2 coats of fiberglass filler, 3 coats of regular filler and 2 coats of glaze. It takes about 30-45 minutes of constant sanding per coat of filler, fiberglass taking the longest as it cures harder than the rest.
If you are willing to make the commitment, I will start a DIY thread and teach you the ways.
