Good!

Did you ever figure out what that large ring is, in your second photo?

Nope. It looks like a  dust seal for a bearing, but all of mine have theirs intact. A mystery.

Could it have come from inside that black rubber bearing seal that looks so banged up in your first photo?

I believe the exploded diagrams list the specs on the bearings and seals.  You should be able to get a new seal at any bearing supply shop for a few dollars.

It doesn't fit that rubber dust seal on the non drive side I pictured either. But yes, I think that rubber seal should be easier to source locally.

lemming - I'm having trouble letting this one go!  Looking at that first pic again... that seal should be smooth and flat, and it just doesn't look it.  Was it installed backwards?

It hasn't been out since I have had the bike. I think that's wear from the 20 miles I ran without the spacer.

........Attached is a pic of my wheel, installed.  You can see the axle end, snail adjuster, swing arm plate, black spacer, and small "silver" spacer, which has a flange......

much too clean ......  you really should ride more often !

Sure it's clean!  I've had it all apart four times in the past two months...

While I had it off to change the tire, I got after my wheel with a rag. Boy, does it look better!

Damn! To be honest, I'm glad that the tyre/big metal spacer combo held up and you had to remove the tyre within a short period of time. Otherwise you would've kept riding, and who knows what might've happened!  :o

Just for reference, following is the detailed part list.

Note that the small spacer discussed in the last few posts is not shown in that parts diagram...

Pooooooooop!

They skipped mentioning anything about that. The iron barrel parts manual does show it and it is referred to as the "rear hub distance collar".

bluesdaddy2 is correct: In the UCE owner's manual, there is a reference to the 'collar'. However, there is nothing about it in the UCE service/parts manual..  :-\
