Replaced the inner primary case with a AVL kickstart only inner case.  Ice gave me the new case.  Thanks Ice.

Royal Enfield people are good people

Cheers,
Bill

Yep, that's exactly what my AVL/Redditch hybrid uses, I've been trying to get a second set for the latest project without much joy so far - I have the inner and outer on order from separate Indian suppliers, but if they don't show, does Ice have any more tucked away?

If anyone else is thinking of the same conversion, the inner will look like THIS, at least if it's for an Indian market 4 speed model (no problems if you have already gone to right foot shift). 1 Thump somehow managed to find a left foot shift version, so they are out there too. Just don't ask me where! http://www.enfieldmotorcycles.com/forum/index.php/topic,19310.0.html

Yours certainly looks a whole lot neater, is there enough weight loss to improve ride/handling/performance? Do you still use the original valve lifter? The whole bike now looks 10mph faster just standing still.

Good work, Bill.

Regards,

A.

Looks awesome, Bill.  Really makes for a much nicer engine shape.

Is a relatively straight forward job?  Pull the cover off, remove the clutch basket and alternator, remove the old inner case and put on the new one?  Did you run into any trouble?

I also really like your polished fork legs, and that is one mighty clean chain!

boggy,

I had to drill and tap three new holds in the engine case to match the mounting holes on the kickstart only case.  Also needed to machine the new case at the mounting holes and counter sunk them to clear the starter gear on the crank shaft sprocket.  This is not a hard job and can be done with basic hand tools.

Adrian II,

I have 'S' cams installed so I don't have the exhaust valve lifter.  Don't need it.  As far as I can tell there is no improvement in handling or performance, just a little weight lose, that's all.  I don't think Ice has any more cases like this, but you could PM him and ask.  Your hybrid is looking good.  I like it!

ace.cafe,

Thanks.

Cheers,
Bill

Sorry Bill, forgot you'd swapped cams.  :-[

Hybrid Project II will look even better.
