 :) thanks in advance...
Anyone know if there is a way to change the trip odometer/odometer to register miles instead of KM? Thanks! Michele
(Would save me a step in translating for my mpg.

All of the internal guts in the speedometer would have to be changed to change the ratio from km to miles.

This, not being practical, just multiply the km reading times 0.6 to get a close value to the miles the number represents.  (Actually 0.62 is much closer to the real mile value but for 2 miles per hundred it isn't worth the effort.**)

For example, if the difference in km since you last refilled your fuel tank was 200 km, multiplying 200 X 0.6 gives a value of 120 miles.

I refill my G5 tank at about 150 miles so I would be looking for a km value of about 250.  (250 km X .6 = 155 miles).

**If you are calculating the exact MPG figure you probably should use the 0.62 multiplier.

For instance, if the motorcycle has gone 300 km since your last refill and it needed 2.5 gallons to refill it, multiply 300 X .62 = 186.0 miles traveled.
186.0/2.5 gallons = 74.4 mpg.

Mrmvolz,
Actually this is much simpler in a GT.  Turn the key to start position. Hold down the trip meter reset button when you have the odometer displayed. After 10-15 seconds, the display will switch from km to miles. To change back, switch off the key and switch it on again.  Hold down the reset button for 10-15 seconds and it will flip back from miles to km.

Hot damn!
What will they think of next?

OK you GT owners.  Ignore my earlier comments. :)

For the rest of you who are stuck with an old fashioned mechanical speedometer set up in KM's the comments still apply.

They also apply to speeds so 100 kmph is equal to 62 mph,  50 kmph = 31 mph and 130 kmph is darn close to 81 mph.
With our Royal Enfield singles we don't have to worry much about numbers bigger than that.  ;D

Can we get these speedo's and will they fit in place of the old(er) mechanical ones? (like say on a 2012 C5)

looking at the wiring diagram detail posted in this thread:

Our UCEs don't have a "speed sensor" wire - I wonder what is actually used to gauge the speed?  A sensor in the gearbox?  Or something on the front wheel?

That is a concern but the aftermarket ones I've looked at have a sensor kit of the style used on bicycles with a rotating magnet and fixed sensor.  I'm curious if it has the same physical dimensions to fit in the nacelle of the C5.

I get it; you're talking about just the speedo.  I don't know it that would fit...

Most of the bicycle speedos I've seen have a single magnet on a spoke, and a sensor on the fork - one pulse per wheel revolution makes for a lousy refresh rate!  I have really old Cateye unit which uses a ring round the hub with 4 magnets in it; 4 pulses per wheel rev is a much smoother, quicker refresh...

The speed signal on the GT comes from the front wheel. The sending unit looks similar to the cable-drive unit on the C5s but it generates an electrical pulse. The 'cable' on these bikes is a heavily shielded wire....plus the speedo itself is electric and would require a power source

I recently purchased a new (2020) Interceptor but this method does not work, switching from miles to km. Purchased in Canada but presumably a US model (MPH with secondary KPH and odometers reading miles).
Can anyone confirm this does not work in this situation.
