What the heck is this?

See attached pic. This is a picture under the headlight of the steering stop. Notice the wire looped through the hole and it goes under the lower steering bushing. This can't be normal! It does not seem to be causing any problems, but? Does anyone else have this? and what is it? Also it is tight and doesn't want to come out. I do not want to take my front end apart!

I'm not sure what it is..maybe something left over from assembly. I do not have it on my bike.

Looks like it may have held a tag at some point...not on my bike either.
Does it cause problems with the steering lock?

No, it does not seem to do anything (good or bad). I am only concerned because it goes under the steering bushing / bearing. I am tempted to just yank it out with pliers if I can. Or, should I just forget about it?

It does not belong there. It could be from the manufacturing process or it could be something you picked up. If it is still under warranty take it to your dealer. If it is stuck in the steering bearings they can document it then warranty new bearings. Otherwise you can just pull it out. Get the front end in the air and check the bearings for roughness. If they are smooth you are probably OK.

Ok...I managed to pull it out with needle nose. I think it was a wire that held a tag during assembly. Has a lot of steering grease on it, but doesn't seem to have caused any damage. The RE plant does know what QA is, right?

The factory gave me one of those too.
The sharp ends on mine scratched the silver paint below it as you turned the steering.

I am curious...what happened to the tag? (or whatever) this piece of wire was attached to? Years from now, when I am greasing the steering head, I'll probably find out...
