Taking off fuel tank from motorcycle allows access to ignition coil and wiring harness that runs along the frame under the tank.

You mentioned it, but it bears repeating - be very careful with that plastic fuel pump outlet tube!  It's in the way, easy to break, and expensive to fix!

Yup! I had the tank off yesterday for a new handlebar install (had to re-route throttle cables). That rear tank mounting bolt wouldn't come out because of the fuel pump nozzle. So I sat there for an hour just filing the bolt from one side to get it out without touching the nozzle. Oh well. I didn't want to remove the fuel pump.

I wonder if the bolt can be turned around, put from the right side so that the nut is on the fuel pump side. I have not tried yet but if it can be done without the cables and wires on the throttle side not completely blocking its way, then pump nozzle can be spared the wrath of the wider head of bolt.

I think it can be done. But then again, tightening the nut with the nozzle in the way would've been another challenge for me. Maybe a spanner could've done the job, but it would've been tough. I can't recall. Because I filed the nut, I put it back the same way with no issues.
