I can get 20w 50, but the 15 is out. So, since I will be riding for most of the year, including a good amount of cold weather riding, will the 20 be just fine for Colorado riding (6500 ft)? Here is an accurate description of my locale: I live in a high plains desert. Low humidity, widely varying temperatures during the day (a 30 degree change in temp is not uncommon), plenty of nice steep hills and a nice elevation change from the one end of town to the other. During the summer, I will be riding in temps as high as 100 and as low as 50. During the winter, I will be riding in temps as low as freezing and as high as 60. So, before I go spend money on what could be the wrong oil, what are your thoughts about the oil I should be using?

20w50 will be fine for summer. Use a thinner 10w40 for the Winter.

Yay!  Another Coloradan!     :D

Krimp - I live in Aurora and I rode most of last winter.  I've been running RotellaT 15-W40 and I don't have any issues hot or cold.  You can get it fairly cheap too, $13-$16 a gallon.  Give me a shout if you're ever up in the Denver area.  :)

I found 20w 50 just a few blocks from me. Full synth was $13.00 a quart. I will be buying the gallon from Amazon when my next payday rolls around.

High on Octane, I don't make too many trips north, but I will certainly let you know when I plan on being up there.

I'm also looking forward to riding up to Cripple Creek. That will be a great ride.

Also, I did complete my first oil change. The screen wasn't too bad, it only took about two minutes to clean it. I then spent another 5 making sure I got it clean. The metal flakes on the drain plug were about what I expected.

Rotella diesel oil is the proper grade, cheap, and high quality.
