Mondello's took their car to the Hot Rod Magazine Top Speed run at the Ohio Mile this past weekend.
It was a tube-framed aero vehicle with a sort of circle track style body, and a 356 cu. in. small block Chevy with 9:1 compression on pump gas. It dynoed 610hp before they left. A top rpm of 8100 rpm.

They hit 192.7 mph.
They were really hoping to get into the 200 mph club, but it didn't quite have the legs for it. They are going to re-do the engine a little, and try again next month.

Just thought I'd post a little news on Mondello's for you Mondello fans, and for people interested in LSR type racing.

Very cool!  And 610hp on 9:1 compression is insane!  It obviously flows superbly well and must also have light rods and a perfect balance.  If they can bump the compression to 10ish:1 they may get the extra hp they need and still run pump gas.  Regardless 192mph is an awesome number.  Congrats to the team over there!  :D

Last weekend they tried it again with  the new engine.
They hit 200.8 mph officially, so they made the "200 Club".
They were all smiles.

Unfortunately, on the last run, they broke the drive belt for the external oil pump they were running, and blew the whole engine. But, at least they got the official time in the book, which is the important thing. Now they just have to rebuild the engine again.
