Still find Moby Dick best book as introduction on whales ever. Melville is a great author.

Royalista - look up the true story of the whaleship "Essex", which inspired Melville's Moby Dick.  A good resource is Nathaniel Philbrick's In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex : excitement, adventure, foolishness, bravery, cannibalism... what more could you ask for?!?

After checking out http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/in-the-heart-of-the-sea-nathaniel-philbrick/1101101582?ean=9780141001821 I've put it on my "must buy to read more than once" list.
Thanks for a great suggestion.  :D

I don't know about the status of the Conti's, but I know this:
"In the Heart of the Sea", my copy of it has arrived.
And it proves to be even better than advertised.
I hope the GT's will match that and more.  ;D

I'm glad you like it!  I've liked all the Nathaniel Philbrick books I've read so far...

I will try to find a copy of that one myself.
Some sea stories I have enjoyed, I found after reading ALISTAIR MacLEAN's H.M.S. ULESSEYS about a convoy to Russia in WWII. Then I discovered DOUGLAS REEMAN's series of books on aspects of war at sea. Great fiction based on historic events - Hard to put them down.
Best Wishes, Craig McClure
