 hello gearheads.
  i don't see much written about this in the forum, and nothing in the books. so, do i remove at the handlebar first? then push the top cap down and pull the split pin out. if i pull the split pin out, will the valve drop down into the cylinder?

Take the cable out of the lever then put a 13/16 spark plug socket over the cable slide it down over the decompreser and remove the whole assy. Then replace the cable then screw the thing back in with new washers. If you try to do it in place you've got a good chance of it falling in the cylinder.  ERC
