hello gearheads.
i bought this last summer. i don't know if the first owner added extra gaskets or is this the way they come? the person i got it from was the second owner. he said when he got it , it had been sitting out for ten years or so. i don't think it leaks. i sprayed a mist of wd 40 around and no change in the rpm. it just looks bad.
so should i go ahead and replace them, and is it normal to need three layers of gasket?
 thanks.

If there is no leak there, then it's okay. They may have been trying to make a heat  resistant spacer.

One thing to watch out for is the angle of entry into the carb top by the throttle cable. The extra spacers could cause it to be misaligned to the point of impeding smooth cable movement. My tank's underbelly is constantly trying to relocate the throttle cable to something less than ideal.

thanks for the advice.
i guess if its not broke don't fix it. it does look bad. so when it does come time to replace it are multiple layers a good thing? i don't see any heat spacers for sale unless its got an amal. mine is not.

If it's just the ugly hose clamps that are bothering you, you can remove them, trim them down with a pair of dykes, and paint 'em trim black.  It will make it a lot cleaner and not nearly as noticeable.
