Hi guys, Just put a deposit on my first bike in 44 years that isn't a BMW, a 2014 C5.All my old Beemers had small marks on the speedo showing a maximum recommended speed-in-gear so you wouldn't get into a dangerous rpm range. I don't see this on the Enfields. Has anyone calculated those points that could be put on my speedo as a warning. I know, don't tell me I'll know by the feel. I'm sure the Enfield feels different than my other makes. Looking forward to a new experience.

If you choose to change gear between 75% power (ie at 3000 rpm) and 100% torque (ie at 4000 rpm) then the figures are:
I 16-21 mph
II 24-32 mph
III 31-42 mph
IV 40-53 mph
V 48-65 mph (if there was a VI gear) 

Note: I computed these figures based on the sprocket and wheel size of my electra. The classic is a tad different, won't be significant though.

+1, the bike tells you when it's unhappy.  These points change over the first few thousand miles.  As the bike breaks in they get higher in the RPM range.

They are quite easy to ride in their comfort zone. You will feel it. As the engine breaks in, the vibrations go down and the comfort zone increases. It will go over 1000 miels before it really starts to loosen up and let you know it's really ready.

Basically, just ride it. Don't flog it on top end and don't lug it. Just ride it, it will be quite fine. These are far better engines than the old iron barrels and do not require being babied during breakin. Enjoy!

Hope you enjoy your 14 c5 as much as i have mine...When i first got mine i had an issue with a false neutral in the 3-4 shift...To fix that i raised my shift lever 2 splines up on the shaft...no problems since...Evidently my boot was holding the lever from returning all the way after the power 2-3 shift...aside from that feel the power band and shift accordingly...she will let you know when to kick it up a notch...
