Im thinking of getting the genuine mikuni carb kit from our sponsor.  I have a few questions though.  First off, my current setup is the standard 28mm Micarb with the less-restrictive short pipe (still contains baffle), and a K&N cone filter.  Is there a distinct advantage of running a 32mm carb or should I just go with the 30mm?  Ive been reading alot about jetting but havent found anything just like my setup (Im at sea level).  Also, should I run a richer slide?  I apologize up front for my ignorance, any help is appreciated.

I may be wrong but i think that the 30mm is the way to go if no other mods are contemplated.

From a technical perspective,  the 32mm is a better match for the port.

Thank you Ace, I was hoping you would reply.  In looking at the port, I felt the 32mm a better choice as well but didnt want fly in blind.  Once again, this board has eased my stress over which part to use.

Any ideas on jetting?  As I said, I have the k&n cone filter and a shortie muffler with very little of the baffle in it.

Mikuni does not make a 30mm Flatslide TM carb.
Any 30mm you'll find is a copy of a Keihin "D" Slide.

Hey Reds!
OMG...YES, there is a destinct advantage with the upgrade from the 28mm.
D/D is right, no such thing as 30mm 'flatslide', unless it's the knock-off Keihin...and stay away from it...but, go with the flatslide.
Per Ace's advise, I went with the Mikuni 32mm flat on my '99 KS. At the same time I fitted an old BSA shorty exhaust (unrestricted) and put in one of those bolt-in baffles, which sounds awesome by the way.
The increase in performance is remarkable. It feels like a new bike...the throttle response is immediate and she pulls like a bitch. I took the OEM silencer off, which weighs a ton in comparison, and removed the OEM 28 Mikarb. I too, have the KN cone filter.
Perhaps because I upgraded both intake and exhaust at the same time, the next ride out was so impressive and noticable. The climb out from 40-60 is now quite exciting!
I can't say enough about the increase in performance...but, perhaps I have. Sorry....

The 32mm kit from our sponsor is not a flatside, right?  I can source a mikuni 32mm flatside but I think it would require a new cable and I know it would require a new manifold....right? :)

For Mikuni VM32 round slide, or TM32 flat slide, the manifolds are the same.
Cables are the same.

Ace,  not to sound like a complete idiot but...do you mean the cable and manifold are same as stock 28 or that the flatside and round have the same cables?  The way I see it, I can source a TM32 from numerous sources and buy the manifold and cable from nfield gear (if needed)?

I did not refer to the stock 28.
The manifolds and cables for the VM32 and TM32 are the same. So if you get the right cable and manifold for the round slide VM32,  then you will have the right cable and manifold for the TM32 flat slide also. They fit the same manifolds and cables.

The manifold for the stock 28 will not fit these larger carbs,  and cannot be modified to fit the larger carbs.
The stock cable can fit on the VM32 or the TM32,  but it is a bit short and is a tight fit without much room for any variation. I have gotten them to work in the applications where the budget was very tight. The stock cable is really crap, and the $22 for a Motion Pro cable is well worth the price.

What length cable do you recommend?

P.S. I really feel I am taking advantage of your good nature at this point-sorry!
