I suppose it was only a matter of time: I give you the R nine T - get it? R90?  Sheesh...

If there's any doubt about their target market, or at least their promo gimmick, check out the grunge-boy photos on the BMW page:

Nothing against it, but those stock mirrors need to be replaced with some sleek bar-ends. (IMHO, my preference  :-X)

Someone needs to put that pic in the Webster's Dictionary, because that is text book FUGLY!  I'm kind of disappointed with BMW.  Hell, it looks like it's pregnant with triplets!

It is good to see more options for riders.  The trend to smaller displacements makes sense.  Newer riders need them, many older riders prefer them, and they are usually cheaper to operate and maintain.

But is this new BMW R-9-T just a styling exercise?

I think Streetfighter is the correct term for that bike. Most of the time it's the ad men that redefine a term and will eventually convince the public it's real. It's a new way in marketing, Remember when the Chopper became a Factory Custom?

Shore is tall! But it's a Beemer, and those fall into a close second to Hardley in my book.

I am surprised at how much i like this thing. One day though, BMW may surprise me and produce something that is not "over engineered" this isn't it! Would it kill the Germans to make something like this that is closer to the simple is beautiful philosophy? 8) Which is why i like RE so much.

If you just stare at the side of the tank, it does look like a smiling cartoon whale.
That's not a criticism though.

Not much retro about that.  As far as CafĂ© Racers, they were just the earliest incarnation of sport bikes, which is what this looks like to me.  No thanks, BMW.
