Not exactly a headlight, but the closest thing is PIAA 530 LED driving lights -

Thanks singhg5. My problem is I have LED driving lights and they make the main headlight look so wimpy I am concerned that if a driving light fails (wiring, connector, relay ...) the headlight will be inadequate to get home safely. I may just have to go for a halogen headlight - which seems unfortunate when the LEDs are so good.

Check these out!

http://dx.com/s/headlight?category=720

Free shipping too (but Chinese quality!)

1000 Lumens is a lot of light - I think halogens make only about 12 lumens per watt.

You could mount two of these on the crash guard and scare all the gremlins away.

These are basically drop in replacements for a 7" round headlight, DOT approved.  I think there are some others out there as well.  Cool idea but it's a lot of money.

Why would one look for a LED head light? In my experience so far there's no LED that can replace halogen efficiently. The alternator of the EFI is also strong enough to run the 55/65 watt halogen in conjunction with 2 x 55 watt halogen spot lights and an LED rear light - at least at cruising speed - I would not recommend it for town traffic.

My friend has some LED flood lights on his 4x4.  They throw a ton of light out and use hardly any energy.  They throw more light and use less energy than the halogens he had.  For a headlight, you need something designed as such, so the DOT certification is important.  Otherwise it's probably more of a flood type beam and will blind people coming at you.  That said, I think an LED headlight would look out of place on an RE but that's just my taste.

Not all REs have a decent charging system.  My 2010 C5 can't even run a 55/60W headlight without killing a battery.  Everything else in the system is stock.  I'm still trying to figure out why.  The alternator is throwing out plenty of juice so it's probably either lame wiring or a marginal reg/rectifier.  Regardless, I run a 35W headlight in the meantime so I don't kill batteries and end up stranded on a regular basis.

Scotty, I had the same problem initially and my battery also got flat on a regular basis. I'm not sure what it was but after I installed a new AGM battery and relays to the headlamp and spotlights all was fixed. Maybe it could be the wiring harness as I now took a direct feed from the battery to the relays.

Thanks Roeland. I have all the parts to improve the wiring harness, just need the time.  No relays, just heavy duty wiring and some rewriting planned.  Good to know that may be all that it is.
