Since putting my new shocks on, my rear brake is now outta whack. Basically the level that comes down off the back wheel(with the nut that you can adjust up and down the rod) this level now hits the castle and wheel nut rendering the back brake non existent.
I understand how to re center the back brake shoes, but I just can't seem to get that brake to connect with the shoe..l

Pics please?  I think you may have put it back together incorrectly and that's why things are not aligning properly.

What happened was, al was well. Put shocks on, all was still well, but then I realized the left cam came away from the wheel probably from replacing the shocks. So I fixed that and was just going through the recess of re seating the brakes, but it's all outta whack now. I don't have time to post pix rut now. Tis is the frustrating thing. I'm covering 100s km today and yesterday, no rear brake. It seems like the whole brake shoes have rotated around or something.

There is a locator stud just below and forward of the axle.  It sticks through a plate on the swingarm and is secured by a big, black nut, 18mm I think.  It's conveniently located right behind the scalding hot muffler ;)  It keeps the backing plate from rotating.  If it slipped out then the backing plate could get into the wrong position.

Please post a pic when you can.  Basically, I want to see what's right behind the muffler where everything bolts up.

Def need a pic.  Seems odd to have anything move from changing shocks since you only needed to unbolt the shocks at top and bottom and nothing else.

Based on what I see, I would say that the brake arm itself has somehow rotated widdershins and is now in the wrong position.  I say that based on where your wear indicator is sitting.  It is very high in its travel.  Somehow, and I cannot fathom how, your wear indicator and brake arm seem to have rotated independently of each other.   

I could be completely wrong.  It has been known to happen.

That, or something inside is not put together right, and so the arm is not where it should be.  I suspect this is the case since he did not mention taking it off or repositioning it.

It looks just like mine too with the lever pointed almost straight down (but a little to the rear) when the brakes are not being applied.

Mine only moves about 1/4 inch before the brake is totally locked.  If this one is moving further, something is definitely wrong with the shoes or the position of the lever on the cam.

While I'm writing can I ask, Please remove that damn pointed screw from the castle nut lock hole.  Replace it with bailing wire or better yet, a new cotter pin.
I have visions of your screw falling out onto the road and putting a big hole thru the front inner tube on my bike. :(

I see all steel chain guards? Over here in SA these are plastic and they disintegrate often. I replaced mine with steel - they are difficult to get Is this the standard export issue?

mine came with steel chain guard. i also bought the steel speedo gear from hitchcocks to replace the plastic one.

Yes - UCE - made in 2011 - registered on 2012. All plastic chain guards at the rear and plastic speedo gear up front.

the good thing is is that hitchcocks have all these good quality bits for these bikes.
i wouldnt bother buying anything from the dealers here in oz. theyll charge a fortune and youll end up with the same junk anyway.

You've got to pull the wheel off and look inside the brake.
Outside looks fine.  Don't know how the inside got messed up from replacing shocks.  Did you pull the rear wheel and open the brake drum to replace the shocks?
Anyway, something is amiss with the parts inside the drum so that when the lever moves it isn't camming the shoes out.
Open it up and take a look.  Should be obvious if you have a manual or Singh5g's Youtube DIY to refer to.

sorry for the late response and thank you all soooo much.
the part that is hitting the castle nut is the lever arm. i think in this pic i had the nut on the rod undone so the lever arm is sitting pointing straight down, but if i were to tighten this up as to engage the brake whilst having the wheel and castle nuts off and reseating the brake it works(then tightening the locator nut) but once i put the castle nut/wheel nuts on, the brake lever arm hits these and doesnt engage the brake at all. The other thing is, is that i took that brake wear indicator off and i cannot remember where it goes so its pointing anywhere...
My brake shoes have arrived so im gonna get in there. see if i can ruin something else...

And yes the screw is temporary!! sorry bout that , my split pin broke...

Don't worry too much about the indicator arm.  It's just a convenience that tells you about where your pads are.  BUT, if you loosened that it may have let the lever arm rotate and caused your problem.

I think I did loosen it. Few weeks ago. I have a tendency to do stuff like that...anyway, using  king singhs video I'm changing the pads now.

My g5 is the same yeah as yours Roeland and it came with the steel chainguard , but plastic at the front.

i just used 2 bricks. I didnt need to take the front wheel or chain guard off...
My muffler comes on and off pretty easily so thats the main thing with jobs like this!
pads were stuffed. problem solved!
